Re: Computer Case/Mods Gallery
Hi Peeps.
Couple of pics of my first build. Re-did the wires recently, so much neater than it was.
Cant really do a great deal with the one coming from the fan on the window.
The wire that stretches to the middle of the board, is for a 3.5 Floppy/card reader.
For some reason, I chose to plug it into that USB header. I have others in better locations...any reason why I cant use one of those?
Cheers

Heh...yeah, I splashed out £400 on Corsair Dominator.
Not...I wish.
No mate, you can buy it on it's own, Scan is about £12 mate. It's my second one. I RMA'd the first as it is supposed to be near silent, but one of the fans whined like a Chav when her Giro is late!
Was the loudest part of my system.
New one is good.
Re: Computer Case/Mods Gallery
All right mate. Cheers for the info. I think it looks quite nice with your silent square pro:)

Yeah. For the money, it seems silly not to have one.
The Silent Square Pro, is lapped and modified for best fitment as I had some problems with contact...not so now...did a thread on it...didn't get stickied...gutted:(
Re: Computer Case/Mods Gallery

Where did you get your lapping kit from Skeet? I \'m thinking of doing the same to my Arctic Freezer64 but noone seem to have them in stock.

Lapping Kit?:D
Some people used to call me Mr Polish...I like shiny;)
Bottom shelf of old TV stand (plate glass)
Sink.
Wet and dry from Auto parts store..anywhere really...you could also try valve grinding paste, comes with two grades in one tube, then something finer, but wet and dry is the best way.
Got some Isopropyl Alcahol from Maplin's...sorted.
Re: Computer Case/Mods Gallery
erm, sorry for my utter ignorance but I only understood about 10 percent of what you are saying:embarrassed: So do you happen to know anyone selling similar stuff for begginer that preferably comes in kit form? Looks like kustomPC sells one like that but it's out of stock. http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3719.html

You want a sheet or two of 240 and 400 same of 600 and 1200.
Do you have a small mirror you can use as a base, due to it being glass and flat?
Then some Solvol Autosol etc and a duster.
Then clean it with Isopropyl Alcahol (cleans and leaves no residue). I have a spray can of it from Maplin Electronics, 200ml "Electrical Solvent Cleaner" about £3.
Use a black marker etc to draw a squiggly line across the bottom of your heat sink, so you can see whqat areas are in contact with the paper.
Take a file and carefully chamfer the edges of your heat sink at the bottom, this will help it move over the paper easier and stop it from ripping it.
Start with teh 200 grit paper. Place the sheet on the glass surface, maybe tape it down with masking tape...you can apply water if you wish but see how it goes.
Move the heat sink across the paper back and forth in a straight line (straight ish).
After a while, check the bottom out.
You will see where the paper has rubbed the heat sink away and you will either have squiggles in the middle but not edges or the other way round.
Lose the squiggles.
Repeat process until the surface is flat, then use the finer grade papers (400, 600, 1200) to polish the finish.
Use Solvol Autosol or other paste type metal polish to give a good final polish...then use the IPA spray to clean it off with some lint free cloth etc so it is nice a clean and fairly sterile.
Re: Computer Case/Mods Gallery
