Case Mod - Tango/Assassins Creed - Painting,Cutting,Frosting
Hey all,
Started a mod months back which went wrong, so I decided to do it all from scratch ;) it's themed around Assassins Creed and my love for the colour orange :)
Taken me a couple of months, my first time. Hope you all like it :D decided to post the whole log here.
Before I start I want to say thanks to Pob255 for giving me some great suggestions for this mod! :) So thanks Pob
Original
Plain simple case. I did use vinyl which turned out awful ;)

Things I used
Some simple things I used for the extras, sponge neoprene for vibrations and stopping scratches with some acrylic glue.
Used shelf holders for holding the acrylic in place (orange) and the black ones are for inside for the front fans :)

Sanding + Cutting
Sanding
Top panel destroyed
First I cut the top to make an opening for free air to move out the top ;)

Rear fan space eliminated
Then I destroyed the rear fan space.

Side panel punched
Next was to punch a great big hole into the motherboard panel for hot air from behind the board to leave freely. I flattened it out later with some blocks of wood.

Acrylic side crafted
The acrylic window was cut to size and kind of stencilled away at the film to leave the logo on ;)

Cover up!
The top fan bay which is removable was covered up and so was the front bezel so I could start spraying it later :)

Began sanding
I then started sanding everything down.

Painting (Primer, colour
Side Panel, Fans and PCI slots Primed
They were Arctic Cooling F12s, primed up ;) PCI slots and the motherboard panel is also sprayed with primer here.

Black Matte chassis complete
Black matte sprayed. Multiple layers were used. He also had a good wash mid process where I then added some more coats for the final look :)

Extra Touches (Window holders, damping)
The Side panel's Damping
Added my neoprene around the edge for a cleaner finish but also to stop vibrations (I also added these to the major closing points in the case where vibrations would occur).

My Window holders (a.k.a Shelf angle holders)
My little added holders where the window will slot into place :P

Finish Shots :D
Finish shots of the mod. My acrylic on. The bottom pictures shows the top fans inside the case as well as the rear panel :)

I do have UV lighting in there, but due to my crummy camera's lighting (as you may have noticed :P) I couldn't fit it in. Basically the orange paint reacts to the UV light so my orange fans and PCI slots light up :D
Re: Case Mod - Tango/Assassins Creed - Painting,Cutting,Frosting
The assasins creed thing is a bit much for me, but good effort with the window in particular. What did you etch it with?
Re: Case Mod - Tango/Assassins Creed - Painting,Cutting,Frosting
Window, Stanley knife and a steady hand :P it was all I had to shape it
Re: Case Mod - Tango/Assassins Creed - Painting,Cutting,Frosting
No I mean what spray did you use?
Re: Case Mod - Tango/Assassins Creed - Painting,Cutting,Frosting
Just bog standard frosting spray made by the Paint Factory. Pretty cheap stuff.
EDIT: Yes looking at those pictures I do see the logos are overkill ;) so I'm going to go with plan B (my original plan A), to spray the whole front bezel orange. The more I look at the front the more it puts me off :P
Re: Case Mod - Tango/Assassins Creed - Painting,Cutting,Frosting
Good work on the window.
But I have to ask, what is that black stuff around the border (assuming it's neoprene) it looks like you put it on both sides?
PS where did you get the acrylic window
Re: Case Mod - Tango/Assassins Creed - Painting,Cutting,Frosting
Thanks :P also yeah that's neoprene. Because I take it off a lot I knew I'd end up scratching it. Also to stop vibrations, my last window would shutter against the side.
Acrylic, just bought a sheet off eBay and cut it myself :) I decided on 2mm because 3mm was quite chunky to me.
Re: Case Mod - Tango/Assassins Creed - Painting,Cutting,Frosting
Nice job man, the frosted window looks awesome!
Re: Case Mod - Tango/Assassins Creed - Painting,Cutting,Frosting
Thank you! :D
That's my favourite part. I'm still working on this mod, got a few more things to do.
Painted the front bezel black and using orange vinyl for the sides at the top as the paint has actually reacted badly to the plastic, whoops.
Next on list
- LEDs into Fans
- LED strip
- Wire LEDs up to Molex / 3-pin
- Give another Base coat to my build
- Clear coat!
