Arc midi v2 ssd mountt? (like the mini)
Hey guys,
I have been mildly looking on and off, with the arc mini they have the ssd mounts (instead of screw holes) & was trying to find out if they were purchasable to install in the midi? tbh i'm not even sure if they are removable, but if they were it would be pretty sweet!
Do you guys know if they are obtainable for the midi, aswell as the mini? Would be really handy for the future, rather than removing the motherboard to get a ssd in there :)
(and i couldnt even spell mount right on the title... oops :stupid:)
Re: Arc midi v2 ssd mountt? (like the mini)
Umm what SSD mounts do you mean? the ons I know of in the Arc midi v2 are the normal drive trays, which is the same as the original Arc
The Arc mini v2 has two brackets which are a simple bit of folded metal, you screw the ssd into the bracket then screw the bracket on to the back of the motherboard tray.
Why not just screw the ssd's into the normal drive trays?
Or for easy access to the rear of the motherboard tray just get some velcro tape http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...Id_255230#tab3 cheap simple secure
An ssd doesn't require any special mounting, you don't want a hard drive lose in your case because movement while it's active is often bad and grommet or similar anti-vibration mounting is good because they vibrate, SSD's don't vibrate and are unaffected by movement, they are also light weight so don't require that much to hold them down so they don't come lose when moving a case about.
I really don't understand peoples requirement for special ssd mounting in a case. :undecided
Re: Arc midi v2 ssd mountt? (like the mini)
Hey Pob, sorry! I just meant on the newer case of the mini, they added a small mount on the back of the mobo tray so if you did add one you didnt have to remove your motherboard, seemed like a really cool idea where on the midi there were just screw holes (that you put through the front of the mobo tray) I was mainly wondering if fractal had these available just to add on if you could. I could most probably add them in the normal bays, but i was thinking if i just had the 1st cage (3 drive spaces) and i eventually ran out of room (leaving the second one out for air flow) I could add it on the back easily :) But that heavy duty velcro seems like a great idea! I won't be buying an ssd for a looong while so wasn't paramount, i was mainly curious as Fractal added that feature to the newer mini. Apologies for being silly! :p &thanks for the reply too! :D

+1 :) Mines just shoved in a gap out the way, no moving parts = no need to securely mount really
Re: Arc midi v2 ssd mountt? (like the mini)
Well The holes in the original arc wouldn't be in the correct alignment for those brackets, so you'd have to drill and tap new holes.
You could make a simple single sided mounting bracket, get a length of aluminium L section drill some holes in it, two for the motherboard side and two to go into one side of the ssd or maybe rotate the ssd 90 degrees, make two brackets, it'll depend on the exact placement of the holes.
You might be able to get the actual brackets if you contact Fractal Design, they might sell them to you, I don't know of an official Fractal design parts store.
You'll still have to drill and tap new holes for them.
Re: Arc midi v2 ssd mountt? (like the mini)
Hey Pob! Hmmm i didn't think about that (The drilling, not being in alignment) The making your own plate sounds interesting though, thanks for the input! I did google fractal/mounts etc, but didn't really come up with anything. Tbh i don't mind really, was just wondering as the holes might have been compatible. Some pretty good ideas though Pob, man :) I might email fractal at somepoint&see what they say too. Although the velcro idea sounds good, and if it's ok to slot it anywhere (back, side etc) as RichieM i might just do that aswell. Thanks for the advice though, appreciate it&has given me a few thoughts! :woowoo:
Re: Arc midi v2 ssd mountt? (like the mini)
If you've run out of space for SSDs, try a Silverstone FP58. It fits in a 5.25" bay and takes a laptop-sized slot-loader and up to 4 2.5" disks.
Re: Arc midi v2 ssd mountt? (like the mini)
Plus one here for SilverStone SST-FP58B.
Having it, using it, loving it.
Heads up: really, really tight for plugging in cables, otherwise pretty much ideal for SSDs (not sure how 4x 7200RPM 2.5" HDDs would fare in a confined space).

Nice, thanks guys. I shall have a gander and look into that aswell!
