If you've got a maplins near you, go pay them a visit, you don't have to buy anything but they may well have the Z11 on display, so you can see it in person
At least the last one I went into in the beginning of feb did.

I might well do that, cheers Pob.

Really wish Maplins was nearer to my house though.

I like the NZXT Source 210 Elite personally

That or the corsair carbide 200r

I'm certainly liking the 210s price tag! I have looked at it before too as I see it in sales every now and then, have you built in it before? How did it go, noise, cooling, roomyness, etc.?

Re: Best inexpensive (<£50), preferably USB3.0 compatible, ATX case?

They are not amazingly good, pretty much the same internally as the old Coolermaster elite 330U, 334U or 335U which in turn are basically the same as the even older elite 330 but with the psu moved to below the motherboard.

Space is a bit tight in these but it's still just large enough to fit a 120mm fan based cpu cooler (not 140mm fan based coolers) and a long graphics card as long as you don't have a hard drive mounted in the aligned slots (generally the top 2 to 4 slots, you can still use the bottom slots)
Cabling space behind the motherboard tray can be a bit tight, also with fans in the top trying to get the 4/8pin connector behind the tray can be a real nightmare (often you need to remove the fan, fit the psu and get the cable in place, before you put the motherboard or fan back in and on some motherboard the 4/8pin connector is so close to the edge of the board that it become impossible to have the cable running around the back and have a top fan)
However at the same time they do have the advantage of being near enough as small as possible a case for the range of components.

I think alot of great cases and reccomendations have been made here so i can't really add alot. The 200r is nice for the price, but i would so need a window (can't help it ) The Zalmans not bad for the price, and say the shinobi. I managed to find the Arc midi v2 for £69 so snagged that as it was only £20 more than a £50 case and new it had really nice features (And looks, but ofc thats subjective) If you were to have m-atx you could of considered the arc mini as i'm sure ive seen that for about £55 at somepoints and for the price has some awesome features and build quality for that price.

Arc mini v2 is a great case
But there is a lot of great midi cases around the £70 price point

Re: Best inexpensive (<£50), preferably USB3.0 compatible, ATX case?

Yeah, £70 is way over I'm afraid.

I'm still trying to get myself a good find on auctions, ebay, etc. at the minute, but I think if I don't get anything soon I will go for a Corsair Carbide 200r at £45 (it's normally more but seems to pop up at £45 in various places about once a week...)

And thanks again for all your help by the way, everyone. I'm starting to feel like a budget case guru with all the suggestions I've been getting. xD

No, I'd never heard of them. :s

I've given them an email address, do you know how long it normally takes to get an invite back?

Re: Best inexpensive (<£50), preferably USB3.0 compatible, ATX case?

Ooo that's for that SUMMONER. Bookmarked

    Sharkoon T9
    Novatech's Vortex
    Sharkoon Bulldozer

I haven't had experience with no cases really. I am using a Zalman Z11 Plus right now and I can at least shine some light on it.

It's a nice case, bottom intake allows a 140mm fan and you can easily add another above that (with zip ties or something similar). It's got good airflow but the side "hard drive" fans are naff they do nothing, just gimmicky. Behind the MB there is ample room for what I needed anyway. The big ATX cable and USB 3.0 cable will not fit behind it though.
A lot of plastic however so you may find it cheap, doesn't vibrate too much but could be better.

Casecom cases seem decent well some anyway

Re: Best inexpensive (<£50), preferably USB3.0 compatible, ATX case?

But hard to find the casecom cases now

That Novatech Vortex looks really nice Would of preferred SECC over SGCC steel but there's not a great deal in it, mainly SECC steel is often thicker (Most SECC cases are 0.7 to 0.9 mm steel and SGCC is often 0.5 to 0.7mm)
Although that's a really minor niggle that most people wouldn't care about.
Space behind the motherboard tray, except for the large L shaped indent, looks a bit tight.

Also the looks of the z11 is why I also suggested the z12, which is the same internal frame but different looks, less plastic, no 80mm side panel fans, and a pressed out section on the side panels to make more room behind the motherboard tray.

If you only have £50 budgeted to spend on a case, spend as close to £50 as you can because that's opn the low side to get a good case. A good case will likely last you through several changes of core hardware, whereas a crappy one will be noisier, uglier, have less airflow and be an all-round nightmare to build in. I'm still rocking a P180 from about 7 years ago, though I've just bought a windowed Define R4 to replace it (mostly for aesthetic reasons).

Yeah, I'm just starting to realise that now unfortunately - all my other components have arrived and they're just sitting around in unopened boxes because I don't have anything to build in!
I really had thought the case would be the easiest part when I start, turns out it's the hardest. xD

And I've been looking at the Vortex and T9, not looked into the bulldozer yet though.
It seems the Vortex is set up like the Corsair Carbide 400r, which is obviously very appealing, but I've no idea how the fans and filters are... Has anyone got any experience with any of these cases?

I've also been looking at some X-Case cases, hadn't heard of them before today - any good?

Can't wait to try out this Flubit doodad! xD

edit: Oh yeah, the Zalmans. I'm a bit lost on these now, I thought the Z11 had better cooling/air flow than the Z9 (what with the weird front Z thing in front of the intake fans) but I looked up a couple of benchmarks and apparently the Z9 performed better. These are both the plus models I was comparing mind, so they have extra fans. Not sure on the Z12 or Z5 yet... still need to find to time to check them out. xD
