Re: Chassis Advice, please
Okay, so with over 60 views and no responses I assume that either no-one knows what I'm on about or no-one has the knowledge that I was after. C'est la Vie!
So, I have delved further and deeper to lean that what I'm really after is a 'motherboard rack'. The only source of such a rack that I have found is at kustompcs.co.uk and so I'd be grateful to know if anyone knows of any other source or if this is a good one to go for.
Also, this is the rig I'm planning to put in the desk:
Intel Core i7 4790K 4GHz
Crucial 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Ballistix Sport Memory
Asus Z97-K motherboard
Samsung 256GB 840 Pro Series Basic SSD
2TB WD Green WD20EZRX 3.5" HDD
AMD's Radeon R9 280
Pioneer BDR-S09XLT Blu-ray DVD-RW Writer
Still to decide on power supply but like the look of 520W Seasonic Platinum SS-520FL2 FANLESS PSU
Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 PCI-e Sound Card
Have yet to decide on monitor and will reuse current Creative 5.1 speaker system by dismantling and installing in the desk and surrounding area.
Any comments or suggestions appreciated!
Re: Chassis Advice, please
Probably by cannibalising an old case.
In fact someone did that in the workspace thread. I'll see if I can dig it up
Re: Chassis Advice, please
Thanks Phage - in fact I've already picked up a couple of old dells for a quid each (great charity shop round here!) and have their frames ready to hack if need be. If you could find that thread I'd appreciate it.
Re: Chassis Advice, please
Can't find it. There's just too many pages. There appears to be plenty on google though
Re: Chassis Advice, please
Or buy a pillar drill and buy some standoffs from ebay - I did that with my mini-itx into an old Shuttle case conversion. But recycling an old case seems the best time/benefit option.
Re: Chassis Advice, please
Thanks Phage and Wasabi - most appreciated.
I now have frames from the 2 dells, so am confident that I'll be able to mount my mobo adequately - the base of the desk compartment will be of 18mm mdf in order to support all components securely, whilst allowing a sound proofed construction with good air passage. I'll post some pictures when it's ready.
Cheers
