120mm Fan on Thermalright SLK-800A

Now I'm sitting here getting a little annoyed with the noise my cpu fan is making. Tried using a quieter cpu fan but temps soar.

Can any clever people out their think of a way I can attach a 120mm fan to a SLK-800A without the possibility of it falling off etc...

I know the 800A isnt meant to be used with 120mm fans so I am clutching at straws really.

Please no blu-tak or cellotape suggestions either .

maybe its a long chalk but...

bare with me

by the looks of that it attaches its fan on by a little brakcet hook thinkys, so you get an old case fan and cut out the actualy fan so you are left with liek the shell then get an 80-120mm converter, then put ou fan on that, IF it woudl hold becasue fans are heavy, expecially 120mm ones (if you looking at delta)

or

bare with me still...

do the above, and if it fall to pieces andyour pissing off get some metal bars and makes our own little bcackets from in front of the fan to behind the converging parts of the hs then tighten them up with some bolts

or maybe still sell your heatsink, get a thermaltake one, which are prety good, that coem with the volcano 7-11 series, i used one of them (still use if with my curent cooling) with a 0-120mm converter and a fcussed flow delta 120mm fan, and it was performance personified, 19 degrees cpu!!!! but noisy as hell.

good idea, with the fan blade removal thingy... shall mull over it a little bit more... looking to use a nice quiet 120mm not a super CFM monster vacuum cleaner sounding jobby!

just re-reading your post again, if its cooling your after with silence to keep your noise levels and temps down, maybe youd liek the volcano series,

they are fulyl controllable with what you get in the box and are super quiet or super powerfiull, with a mix in between, and can bwe temp controlled and the like

you might find the venus 12 here

Yeh socket A. Its just that I know where I'm at with what I've got. I know what temps I get with what noise and I know it fits etc. I want the temps the same with less noise. And I spent 30quid on this thermalright so I dont wanna waste it. lol

what fan are you running on it though?

Its one off an Aerocool Glacier heatsink, 55CFM at 36ish Db.

I need those 55CFM to keep my temps under 50C where I like them.

do you know what rpm it does to keep that temperature?
also wot thermal compound u using?

about 3300rpm according to mobo sensor. using Artic Silver 3.

you could re-seat the heatsink the with AS5 or alternatively:

if theres a maplins near you they sell the thermaltake fan off the venus 12, and the 11+ as i saw when i was in newcsatle, you could try that on there, it will definitly be mor powerfull as it does 75cfm, but the noise is 11db higher at max,

I have a thermalright sk-7 heatsink,which is the smaller brother of your sk-800.I use a 120mm fan on that.I use a zalman fan bracket to attach the 120mm fan to.It works quite well. a piccy here
you even get a little lead which cuts the fan to 7v which is even less noise.

Thats great Crapshot. I always thought its best to have the fan right on the heatsink but I suppose hovering over it doesnt make much difference
