Replacing original AP181 fans in Silverstone FT02 with AP182s

I know there are a few owners of the Silverstone FT02 case on this Forum, so I thought I'd post a quick message about changing out the three original AP181 fans which come with the case, with the newer AP182 fans. If you weren't already aware, the main difference between the AP181s & the AP182s (apart from the colour), is that the latter come with a variable speed controller (from 500-2000rpm), instead of a three-position switch.

Installing them in the FT02 is really quite straight-forward. Just unscrew the original fans, slide them out of the case, and unscrew the black sliding mounts. These are then screwed onto the bottom of the new fans, which can then be slid back into the case. The speed controller for each fan comes pre-fitted to a back expansion slot plate, but if you're careful you can unscrew them, ease off the silver knob, & then replace the original three-position switch with the new controller. It's a bit of a fiddle as the screws for each controller are tiny, but it's just a question of taking your time. A friend helped me fit mine, & it took about an hour in total. I didn't take a photo of my own case (no decent camera at present), but here's a photo of how the new fans look:

I've currently got the new fans on their lowest speed, & the difference in noise is incredible! Definitely a worthwhile upgrade, which should last me for a few more years. The white fans in a black case probably wouldn't have been my first choice, but I'm not that fussed about looks. The main downside is the cost of the fans...over £64 for the three! But I'd say it's worth it for the peace a quiet alone

Re: Replacing original AP181 fans in Silverstone FT02 with AP182s

Hi sorry to bother you and reply on a very old topic. I just bought thr AP182. The fan speed controller can be separated from the bracket and can replace AP181’s fan speed switch but how can I seperate the knob? I can't turn it? I also try to pull, but it doesnt work, how do you remove the knob?? Thanks in advance!
