    Re: Which case is better

I was considering both of these myself, at one point.

I went with the Corsair 500R. It just seemed the better option on all counts, with a better reputation and I still adore it to this day.
IIRC, it also comes with more fans included, has more fan placements, takes up less space for the same internal area and is less plasticky.

    Re: Which case is better

    I have a different opinion.

For me the deciding factor is air flow, expansion and physical appearance. Will both cases take your current setup easily?

The Corsair 500R looks like a cheap generic case from the front. The builtin USB, fan controller, firewire (who uses firewire these days) connections just make the case look cheap.

The coolermaster has a more thoughtout layout of the USBs, power button's etc. It also incorporates a hot swap bay which is very handy.

The best looking case by Corsair is the 780t but badly thought out with only 2 external 5.25" drives. They should stick to making memory.

    Re: Which case is better

I find the Cooler Master case horrifically ugly, so much that it offends me so my vote goes for the Corsair

I know this isn't one of the ones you suggested, but I really like the Fractal Design Define R4; good airflow and quiet running.

Corsair focusses on quiet, good taste and solid build, whereas Coolermaster cases look like they were designed by a 12 year old Transformers fan.
Even at the Carbide level, most Corsairs are pretty solidly built and lack the tacky plastic toy element of some other brands.

I was initially certain I'd be buying a Trooper, until I saw one in the flesh (back when Novatech had actual shops) and walked away quite disappointed.

How much thought do you need to place simple buttons and ports?
It doesn't have to look space-age to work and the 500R at least has a top tray in which to place the external drives (which always come with stupidly short leads).
Also, those tool-less drive bays are pretty flimsy and only the 3.5" are tool-less.
The hot-swap bay is onlt 2.5" as well, which seems kinda pointless...

"OMG, who uses 5.25" bays these days?", as someone remarked recently on a similar thread!
I personally think the 780T looks awful, small and very limited.
The best Corsair case is probably the 750D at the minute.

The Trooper is big, heavy and designed around LAN parties. Cooling performance is merely average and options for case mods are rather limited. It looks pretty fancy, but lacks on the more fundamental side. It's like comparing a Saitek joystick to something from CH Products!

So in essence, it comes down to taste and whether the case has the features you require.
Another decent range to consider is the Lian Li set.

    Re: Which case is better

thanks for all the options looks like i now have the Fractal Design Define R4 to think of also

    main concerns are:-

    1) dont want to spend more then £100 ish there is room for increase but ideally thats the limit
    2) looking for one that doesnt collect dust i have the spec 03 and the front is a magnet for dust and due to the shape its a pain to clean
    3) want one that is quiet
    4) need one that will take a 240 rad at the top

    thanks all

I'm back to using my R4 with a 240mm Rad at the top, the case comes with sound proofing in the doors and removable dust filters for the front intake fans (and you don't see the dust gathering as its behind the front panel, so its not ugly if not cleaned )
