where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
Just as the title says. There are none. All of the cases look like the same types you would find in an office, just bigger with LED's.
Not everyone likes volvos. Some like Z4's.
I wanted to build a high spec AMD build with no modding. If I pay £100 to 300 on a chassis I don't see why I should have to redesign it myself. Mistakes are costly and invalidate warranties.
You think it would be easy to buy the best and put it together but no.
I wanted the best heat sink so I bought it. The Nepton 280l
Bought the best AMD board crosshair V Formula Z
The best AMD chip FX 9590
Got three R9290's, 8gb ram and Antec PSU.
I already had a phantom case but the Nepton wont fit plus I would like a window.
I fancy a different look now too but case after case just looks like any other.
So I eventually decided to go for the white Stryker. Review after review said that inside was exactly the same as the storm trooper.
Problem is they are all wrong so I had to return it.
The storm trooper can accommodate the Nepton 280l. The Stryker cant.
I wanted to do push pull and was going to ask you all about it but Coolermaster have just emailed me to tell me that they do not have any cases which can do push pull with the Nepton 280l even though they make it.
That's insane.
I don't want another phantom because IMO the 820 and 630 look just like what I already have. Like I say I want something different but just as good on the eye. I want curves not a rectangular box with some LEDs and a handle.
I looked at corsair but their obsidian series is everything I don't like, I.e. Looks like a super large office pc with some LEDs.
So where are all the good cases?
Re: where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
Theres tonnes of cases that can do pushpull with a slim 280 rad like that. The most aesthetic one that springs to mind is pretty much any of the phanteks enthoo range. But coolermaster also clearly wrong. My case (HAF Stacker) could mount 2 push pull with another single sided and room for a 240.
That being said, if you like the looks of the stryker, maybe we don't share the same taste.
Re: where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
Thanks for that and I had already checked them out. The only one that had any curves was the evolve and that is a micro so no good. The rest just look like any other case from any other manufacturer. IE office computer lookalikes with a paint job and some LEDs
I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but they are all just so similar.
Don't get me wrong, there are many I would have great fun working inside of but eventually it will be built and the side panels closed and then I have to look at the thing.
The likes of the Thermaltake level 10 GT snow edition, the Stryker or the phantom (though I'm bored with that design) are my kind of taste. Something different if you know what I mean.
Thanks for the info on coolermaster, though I'm not keen on the haf stacker aesthetically it just goes to show that one bit of bad customer advice can cost them a.sale.
This is the response I got from them
"Thank you for your inquiry,
We are sorry to inform you that we do not have any chassis in our assortment at the moment that can handle a 280mm radiator in push/pull.
Best regards,
Cooler Master support"
Re: where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
*High* spec enthusiasts tend to either just give a toss about performance so don't care what it looks like, or are such enthusiasts that they will self-mod to begin with... if not scratch-build.
Certainly, the rather low-end Corsair Carbide 500R will run a push-pull 240 rad in the top - I know, because I'm doing this very thing in my own 500R right now with my custom loop watercooling build.
But I guess that's not the sort of look you're after...
Re: where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
This is something different.
Not sure about the coolers though?
Re: where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;)
You had a NZXT Phantom case? IMO, they look like Chinese-cloned Cylons and I find them fugly. I think my Corair 600T looks fabulous but you may find it ugly.....
But if you dont, they now do a bigger brother which supposedly fits 280mm rads: The Corsair Graphite 760T

I not quite sure which Obsidian case you are referring to here. I know that there's a few of them that are super large like the 900D and 800D, but I don't recall any of them having an overly loud LEDs.

Perhaps a Graphite 780T and an Obsidian 750D would be a good contenders as well.

Re: where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
the silverstone FT02 was the last high end case that I really yearned after. Not sure if they ever made a USB3 version, but if so I'd take a good look at it.
edit: they did indeed make a USB3 version: http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=242 (they do a black and a silver version.)
If cost is too great see if you can find a bitfenix case e.g. the Merc Alpha/Beta which were good no-nonsense performers for a budget build.
Re: where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
I just discovered that this exists, and I have no idea what to think:

Like something from a budget 1970's sci-fi movie mated with a photo copier. No way I would pay that money for a case though.

I doubt you would get a push-pull 280mm rad in there though!

Exactly, you took the words right out of my mouth. What a dust trap!
Re: where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
Its really nice but rad wont fit in it. That's what I am finding. Every time I see something I like top end stuff don't fit in it.
So far it looks like its going to have to be the corsair 760t. Its not great but looks like the best of a bad bunch.
Its unreal having to settle for how your system looks. Yes we want good airflow, cable routing and sound proofing but why should we have to suffer aesthetically to get this.
Its almost like manufacturers say "we will make high spec gear and make the insides of cases how you want them, but how it looks you have to settle for".
Its not on. Have they ever wondered why high end builders mod. Its because they have no choice.

Actually, it's not unreal at all... Not unless you fancy spending £2-3,000 on a mid-size PC case, anyway.

And how many high-end builds look completely different to all the other high-end builds?
How many different cases would it take to satisfy every individual's different aesthetic requirements?
How much do you think it would cost to manufacture small numbers of many different cases and what would they retail at?
Go spec yourself up a Caselabs model and then double the quoted price to allow for 'aesthetics'.
^ That is why we mod - It's cheaper, easier and you get exactly what you want.
Re: where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
We live in a world where most people want bland, and are prepared to pay for it. Just look at an Audi, it is like they are scared to put an edge anywhere on it in case someone doesn't like it.
I suspect what you really need is a £20 full ATX case and a 3D printer.
I always fancied going steampunk, making a case with a proper working chimney on it to silently vent hot air. Would take up a lot of space though, and pretty sure the wife wouldn't approve.
Re: where are all the good looking cases for high spec enthusiasts?
choo choo http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-ck101/
lian li also do some 'desk cases' where the case is the desk. http://www.lian-li.com/en/products-c...sk/#all/1/list
or just the plain 'ol graphite 780t - the 280 rad fits in the front though
I suspect, now that the 5.25" optical drives seem to have died out on new builds, we should be getting different styles of case come out, because they wont need to be as wide, but as others have said, the vast majority of us just want the boxey shape. also most of the PC masses tend to hide their case under a desk or out of sight, so what does it matter what it looks like?
the non-boxy style case will remain a niche market with the odder designs being only short production runs.
if you want 'different' then its up to you to mod a case but you may get lucky if a manufacturer decides to be different for a change.
just my thoughts on the matter.
