The platform is cpu independant so the existing p4's and athlons could be used in a future btx motherboard

Let's hope they write a front panel connector standard pinout as well.

thinking about it, it might me nice for a change, now i will be able to put the base unit on the left side of the desk.

i also read (while googleing) that is is not a standard that every manufacture will follow, the article also gave an example (of a form factor) that i have never heard off (can't remeber it). and sorry lost the link ...

oh and the picoBTX looks like a treat for the SFF forum

Hmm, call me cynical, but it seems like btx really doesn't need to be incompatible with atx.
It looks like it's been done that way especially to break compatibility, ensuring anyone buying into BTX has to start from scratch with all new components from the case up..

I was thinking this to. Maybe they are gonna bring out a massive BTX range and try and push everyone else out of the market.

I'm sorry but to me I'd say the motherboards on the same side its just the ports are at the bottom with the cpu for airflow and the expansion cards at the top - ALA WATX.

Yer those small Chilli Pro cases had everything flipped around so the CPU was at the bottom, and the cards up the top.

BTX seems to be a lot more than simply flipping the board though, and as long as manufacturers keep to the specs then the 1-fan-cools-all design will be extremely refreshing.
