cases with lots of external 5.25" bays

back in the day you used to get lots of these. Now they're slim pickings.

Anyone know of a good ATX case that has at least 4 (preferably more) 5.25" front bays and sensible internals + air flow too?

IIRC the Coolermaster Elite 530 and Fractal Define XL have 4 (maybe more?)

Not sure how good they are though.
Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.

Re: cases with lots of external 5.25" bays

Haven't looked at cases for ages, but I do have an Antec 1200 with loads of external 5.25 bays. I'd have to look to be sure but, IIRC, 6 bays. Plus several internals.

    Big honker, though.

    Still available? Dunno.

Searching by 5.25 bays on Pcpartpicker (https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/products...t=price&page=1) shows the Fractals mentioned above and some Nanoxias. Both are good makers. I'm also stunned to see a Silverstone RV01 in stock with Scan.

I remember first seeing this case in a Maximum PC magazine, yonks ago. It was this case that made Silverstone stand out for me; it was stylish, packed all the bells and whistles, had that rotated mobo tray and the twin 180mm Air Penetrators which kept it in good contention for thermals.

The Enthoo Primo series has awesome airflow and five 5.25" expansion bays.

Most Phanteks cases seem to have at least 3 bays. My Luxe had 3, so I had to lose one device from my Corsair 500R - I chose to ditch the DVD drive, as I was using discs far less frequently and I could still use a USB external drive for the odd occasions.

The old Lian Li cases did that.

Re: cases with lots of external 5.25" bays

Just checked, and from a quick count, that Antec I mentioned has 12 (twelve) 5.25" bays.

    Enough for ya?

Still don't know if they're currently available, though.

Re: cases with lots of external 5.25" bays

I can't see it listed in their current range? Would it take a full 330mm card internally? And how is it cooled?

Full 330mm card? Truthfully, I don't know, not having one but, as tbe 12 bays suggest, it's BIG. So .... "probably", but don't take my word for it.

I could probably substitute it for a tent and go camping in it. Well, not quite, but ....

Cooled? There's a big fan in the top. Guesstimate, 200-250mm-ish. Then, each pair of those 12 bays has it's own 80mm type fan. And IIRC, there's a couple more fans on the back, 120mm I think. Plus, of course, anything in tbe PSU. The above is from memory as I'm not currently where I can get to it.

Oh, and despite all the fans, it's relatively quiet. There's no howlers.

Re: cases with lots of external 5.25" bays

As luck would have it ebay came to the rescue and managed to find someone selling one of these which was lucky as they're not that easy to come by anymore. And to think I nearly spent £140 on a corsair 750 with all its resonance rattle issues! That's a good chunk of money towards a new CPU cooler.
