Re: Cutting down a pc case
Not sure I understand by cutting down. I imagine you drill out the rivets cut/paint the bits and put them back together.
I was going to mesh mod the front of p180 at some point but tbh its so broken I may just spend a bit more and buy another case.
The lugs have gone on the side panel so i need to buy some magnetic tape to fix it even then its not going to be an easy job due to an extruding lip. After getting some fans, mesh and some steel strips its going to cost at least £20-30. And that is not fixing all the other bits missing/missing. A nice used case should cost about £60 (infact I have my eye on one atm).
Re: Cutting down a pc case
I've chopped all the 3.5inch internal bays out of my Antec 300 just leaving the optical drive bays at the top. That was so I could get a longer graphics card in there, but I have to say it makes for much better airflow.
I meant to 3D print a new mini drivebay to bolt where the bottom rivets went, but having both SSDs crammed in the top works well enough. If I ever replace the 2.5in SSDs with M.2 ones, then the whole thing becomes moot.
Re: Cutting down a pc case
Ah sorry i should be more specific, What i mean is say your case is 320mm long and you want it to be only 200mm long, make sense now?
I'm in the process of cutting down a case due to it being rather long (to accommodate a GPU) I don't need a GPU in this build as its more of a server/storage device so im turning it into a cube :D
Re: Cutting down a pc case
I think most people just buy an appropriately sized case in the first place. There are so many on the market nowadays...
I have cut bits out of cases, in order to better fit existing and custom-built components, which mostly just required snips, a Dremel™, a set of files and such. I have done a whole build with nothing more than a Leatherman Squirt, too.
But really, for the sake of 12cm, it's far less hassle to just find a better case.

ive just started cutting it either way
Re: Cutting down a pc case
How is it looking?
Trimming the side panels will be a pig?
Re: Cutting down a pc case
Would it not be tidier to just make one from scratch, rather than cutting up an existing one and leaving it with weld scars all over?
