Making own fan header cables
I need to make a few fan cables but of a non conventional kind: I need to take a feed of the rpm to a display so just need to make a 3 or 4 pin header with just grd and rpm tach. The other branch of the y will have all 4 cables. So it's 2 female off one male rather than the usual one female to two male. I haven't found any premade so I assume it needs to be a diy job. Does anyone know the names of the connectors and cable gauges etc that I need to order? (Or if you know a product I can buy off the peg do let me know)

Someone has done a good job on the wiki page. Got the codes now I just need to find a supplier
Re: Making own fan header cables
Problem with parts like crimp pins and connector shells is they usually come with minimum order quantities of 1000 or so. And you need the right crimp tool.
Have you considered getting a couple of cheap extension cables, chopping them up, soldering them back into the connections you want and use heatshrink tubing to give electrical protection and strain relief to the resulting adapter?

I agree here, it might be easier to buy a few cables cut them up and splice them together.
Although splitting the tach signal may cause issues, I know if you check you'll find splitters you'll find the tach signal is only actually connected too 1 header, because if both are connected it causes issues.
That could be two outputs into 1 input causes bad input in which case splitting 1 output into 2 inputs may be ok, however you maybe halving the signal strength which may make it unreadable or halve the value (I'm not sure on exact fan tach signal)
That said, fan plug pins https://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/p/P...pcs_25121.html
even better fan connector+pins https://www.aquatuning.co.uk/cables/...ogleshoppinguk
Re: Making own fan header cables
yeah that is true. I came to the conclusion it just wants a small custom circuit which once I've been released from DIY duties I might tinker with but it's on the back burner for now. I limped through with what I had for the immediate time.
