prolly gonna get flamed, but, WHY?

why do you guys put so much time and effort into modding your cases?

why not put the extra money spent on the modding of the cases to make the system better in some way... i mean, isnt functionality more important than visuals?

i'd much rather have a brand spanking new processor, hdd, and all the rest, than have some glowing case under my feet?

how many of you actually have them on show too? i mean, my 1 computer is ina cupboard, and the other stays down by my feet.

the only thing case modding would do is annoy me by having more lights on show at night when im trying to get to sleep...

to me its like chav'ing up cars... why take an old car and try and make it look nice, when u could save the money of doing all that work and still having it look tacky and u can go for a stock car that already looks nice?

please explain to me why you do it?

I know my computer is not in a cupboard. It's the same as people showing off with their cars really. When I go to a Lan event I want my PC to look the best.

you take ur PC to a LAN event O.o

sounds like a lot of effort...

    id take my laptop.

and to be fair... id be more impressed by the spec of someones computer rather than how it looks at a lan event.

    Makes it loook more interesting.

To me its more of a personalisation thing than anything else. you can spend hundrends/thousands ofpounds on a machine that looks hideous so why not make it look better, especially if its going to be in plain view.

Its like a piece of furniture, you need to live with it.

I use my PC more than anything in my house and I want to look at some lights rather than a boring gray box

If I spend out on making my machine as good as I want inside... why would I want it to look boring?

Loadsa people see my comps around, take them to lans, then when people come over its like a feature in my room, doesn't look like a computer really anymore, can't show you pics cos its up north and i'm down south.

Also, modding the case to make it quieter is a very good idea.

While I don't mod my case (I don't really like the lights and windows look, and it lives under my desk), I can understand why some people do mod their cases. From another point of view, when you upgrade hardware that's already good, you get a few meaningless extra points in a benchmark, whereas using that money to improve looks means you have something nice to look at, and gives a very visible improvement! Of course, I just prefer to save my money.

You paint the wall's to make the room more matchable for the other furniture in you room. A computer doesnt have that match attribute so it really doesnt matter what color it would need to be. He's true all, save the money till your a millionare then pimp it's look. But for now I like the way mmh thinks and i'm going to use his advice like a word to live by.

    Peace and thanks.
