Fan Control, Volume and the Colour Blue

I need a little advise if you gents would be so kind.

    I currently have a shiny black Coolermaster ATC-201B-BXT. Inside I have 3 x Akasa AK-170CB-4BLS (Case), 1 x Zalman VF700-ALCU (Gfx) and 1 x Zalman CNPS7000B-ALCU LED (CPU) fans.

Along with the Tagan TG420-U22 i-Xeye PSU everything glows very blue through the windowed side panel.

However all is not well. It is easily the quietest of my PCs but despite my best efforts my baby still isn't quiet enough for the light sleeper who resides in the room beneath.

I've already ruled out water cooling as impractical (I move PC's around alot). Accoustic matting inside the case would be pointless as it's already standing on foam feet, on foam matting and on two layers of carpet. Oh and there's no way I'm covering up the window.

The simplest solution to me is a fan controller.

As I want to control the five main fans the Zalman Multi Fan Speed Controller ZM-MFC1 seems like a great option. It controls five fans and is great value. However, despite being black with blue LED's, I think it will look to shiny and out-of-place in the front of my case. Especially as the front panel is matt and not shiny like the sides.

What I 'think' I really want is an LCD/VFD with controler functions (yes it's an excuse to go the whole hog).
Having looked at www.kustompcs.co.uk I see there is a huge range on offer. Only the Matrix Orbitals seem to offer fan control but not for all the fans I've got with the 2 line screens supporting 3 and the 4 line screen supporting 4.

    • Is there a similar product available that controls 5 fans and has a configurable setup with multi-line display (preferably 4)?

    • If not do I plug the gfx in the 12v and plump for a Matrix Orbital MX532?

    • Is there a way of fitting a 4-line display into a twin 3.5" gap?

    • Are twin Matrix Orbital MX232's (2x3 fans) a sensible option?

    • Will the various control software products support more than one display per PC?

    • Can any of this be done without a soldering iron?

    • Am I making a mountain out of a mole-hill, stick with the Zalman and live with the looks you fool?

Whadda you say peeps? I'm all ears!

I have a matrix orbital mx212 for sale.

Its black, 2x20LCD, i should still have the drivers somewhere.

It has software control of the Fans or controlled through the front panel.

    I would like around £40 + P&P.

I can show you photos of the back if you want?

Ok thanks Dougal. If I plump for the twin 2-line option I may be heading your way

What can you tell me about installation? I've read a number of reviews but is there anything specific you would advise?

Oh and just out of interest what are you replacing it with?

    1) drop sales@kustompcs.co.uk a line with your thoughts/requirements - I'm sure that they will get back to you with suggestions.

    2) your 2x intake fans can easily be put onto 1 connection which brings other fan controllers like the Akasa FC03 (or Superflower's version) into play.

    The install was very easy.

The only problem was getting the USB cable out the back of the case.

SO I just carved a PCI backplate out to fit the cable in snugly.

The long cable is great as you can loop it round the whole case praticly or even replace it with a self wired cable of USB header->USB B plug.

The software supplied with it is great, but its locked to my email address and my details. Could pass them on, but there is some great free software available aswell, like LCD Center.
