to power down a fan with switches

right at the moment i have a sunbeam fan controller which is great cause it can turn the fans off however im getting a different fan controller a Super Flower Fan Master (i want temp readout u see) which only goes down to 5v and i would like to be able to turn some fans off

So how and where would i add a switch to enable me to turn off a fan and what switch would do it

Well an SPST switch would do it, just stick one on each fan outlet after the controler, onto the live wire idealy ... or if it leaves the ground intact it may be easyer to attach it to that - it doesn't matter either way!

You could use just one SPST switch to switch the whole thing off on the molex it runs on ... that'd just toggle all the fans on the bay!

SPST - Single Pole, Single Throw - a basic on/off switch, wire one of these on the +ve line to your fan, and it should do fine.

DPST - Double Pole, Single Throw - two on/off switchs, the button/toggle will turn them both on and off at the same time - not used very much in case modding (unless you wanted to switch a device that used both 5 and 12vs)

You can find a gold glossary here:
