    Coolest case around?

I've been looking for a case for myself for a while now, I'm not too bothered about looks, but they're a plus.

I bought a TT xaser 2000 aluminium w/ 7 60mm fans, but these operate terribly because every single vent is 60% or more covered due to aesthetics.

What I'm looking for is a desktop case with a 120mm fan in front of the harddrive cage, a 80 or 120mm blowhole on top, and either 2 80 or 1 120mm fans at the rear.

A fan on the side would be a plus.

The most important thing is that these fans are unobstructed by stupid meshes et al.

    Any ideas/links/images?

(I dont have the equipment or skills to cut myself blowholes in a case)

It will stop the air before it stops the dust. That's what filters are supposed to do (or stretched pieces of tights LOL). I agree with KDH, far too many cases are designed to look pretty ... 120mm fans should be the std now as anything less is just dumb. Seems almost silly to pay the premium a lot of cases demand when they have a few fundamental flaws. KDH you may need to cut your own holes...

EDIT: Too slow, that'll teach me to forget to hit SUBMIT!

5 average 120mm fans would cost more than my case!!!! if they became standard then there price would fall, i hope, then we might get 160mm and bigger fans emerging
i also dont see the point in painting cases, the paint used makes them look plasticy, like cars! shiny unpainted metal looks nicer, unless its steel which always looks crap....

but tbh cooling costs too much.. think about it - u have 3x 120mm fans, one for front, back, and window, then add filters = £60
then add cpu heatsink + cpu fan = £30
replacement nb h/s, gfx gpu h/s, gfx memsinks, ram heatspreaders, and a passive one for south bridge = £40
and thats stil not silent cos ur hdd's....
has watercooling became affordable? yes. mines costing about £110 in total including the stuff i aint got yet, and thats cooling everything.

It's not hard to get 120mm fans new for £5 (Evercool). 120mm fans move a lot more air at lower rpms and hence make far less noise (not always but you get the idea). Filters are cheap esp for a case manu, for a modder all you need is some discarded tights, 15-20 denier for larger fans, 10 for the smaller ones as rec'ed by mgh0. So that's all £15-20. Then a fine adjustable HSF is Volcano 11+ £15. Replacement NB cooling (for those mobos with noisy NB fans) is under £10. If you choose your HD carefully you won't notice thenoise, even if you're super picky like me. Replacing the gfx card's cooler is pointless (unless you have FX5800ultra) and RAM HS are completely unnecessary. TOTAL £40ish and that's inc a decent adjustable CPU HSF too. 3x120mm is a LOT of airflow, one front intake, one rear and if you like one top would be much better than having 8x80mm fans running at higher rpm.

With all the hassle and problems watercooling can entail I think it will be a while before it hits the mainstream ... and longer for it to do so in a form that's remotely worth it. Point is, some cases demand a LOT of your cash and they should be much better than they are and so easily could be.

    Exactly Austin.

Why cant I find an aluminium case with 4*5.25/2*3.5 front plates, and four OPEN UNOBSTRUCTED 120mm fans, one in front of the hidden hard drives, one in the side window right over the cpu, one in the back behind the cpu, and a blowhole on top.

I mean, christ, it's not asking much, but there's not a single case on the market I can find, and I;ve browsed well over 100.

Build your own case! Best way if you want to achieve decent airflow, imo. It might be a little bit labour-intensive, you might not have all the time in the world, it might even cost you more than a normal case would (depending on materials, tools, etc). But if you put in the effort, you'll surely be rewarded.

It can be done with a motherboard tray (stolen from a case, bought from ebay or build your own), a few sheets of 5mm acryllic, glue, jigsaw, drill, dremel and sandpaper. Don't forget the tape measure though

Or.. if you would prefer - a couple of sheets of aluminium if you can find a local company with a few offcuts

It's not that hard, all it needs is time, planning, money, and effort.

the coolermaster centurion should be able to fit either a 120mm or at the least an 80mm fan behind the front grille & there won't be too much cr@p in the way either

also it wouldn't be a major operation to cut a blowhole in the top or fit an extra fan to the side panel since top/side panels are all completely removable

and at about £50 its a pretty good aluminium case too.
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is

I was looking at the centurion myself.

    Problems:

Looked at it's backplate, and it's built in fan grille's?
Backplate is what let's the case down, and the built in fan grille's are terrible.
