    Painting

Im about to paint the inside of my pc red.

Its only the inside so im just doing it with allin one hammerite spray. I have tryed it on other thing and it works well.

When i take all th componants out how do i store them?

I have the original packaging but can i keep the cpu cooler and cpu on the mobo?

    Any tips?

Yes you can keep them all together, just well away from the paint and dust

    You can actually

As long as you use none conducting paint and cover any ports

No real reason to seperate the mobo/cpu/cooler/ram. Just lay them on the mobo anti-static bag out of harms way.

i stuck them on the antistatic foam in the motherboard box, covered this with a plastic box, and crossed my fingers.

Firet two coats are done (its just the inside and back i am doing in red) But i went a bit too thick on the coats (especially on the bottom!) but there is no running as far as i can see and i have left it overnight to dry so ill just hope it is ok.

I am just using hammerite one step spreay paint, its only the inside and back as i said before so the finnish is not a major job (do you think i need to anything?

Well, i have finished the painting now and i think i got a good coat on it. Its not perfect, mabe if i was doing the outside i would now go through the grades of sand paper but this is inside, most of it will be covered, and, bacause of all the cooling holes and screw holes and rivets, sanding on the inside i think would create more problems that not cause it would easily go through the paint on holes edges (where the edges stick up) and other such places, i just need to leave it to harded (overnight?) untill i install the pc back in (well, im still waiting for my ram to come back fro RMA (should have come EARLY this week) so i will see what happens)

It's a common mistake people make, that putting electrical components on an anti-static bag is a good idea. Whilst it's not going to do them any harm, it's no better than any other clean, flat surface. The outside of an anti static bag has no "anti static" properties whatsoever.

It's the inside of the bag that can discharge static.

Turning the bag inside - out is a better idea.

Well, as i said, i put it on the foam that came with the motherboard (inside the antistatic bag) so im sure it will be fine (and i used an antistatic wristband)

I doubt you'll have any problems.
    - Ive ran the whole computer on an opened out mobo bad before now.
    - And ive never used/owned and anti-static band in my life.

i'm not trying to say you'll run into trouble ~ you won't. It's just a common misconception that the outside of an anti-static bag will discharge static.

    That is all.

I agree, I was also under the assumption that the outside of the bag actually has a higher static charge than say a piece of paper, because any static charge from the inside of the bag gets transferred to the outside. Though that may just be me being super-paranoid.

Yeah, which is true. (i opened out the bag, and layed it inside up)

And yes, the outside of the bag proberbly is a greater static risk than a peice of a paper.
    - Just becuase its polyethylene, which is relativly 'staticy'
