    Keyboard mods

    Need a little helps guys.

I am putting together a nice little system for my son (age4) and I want to give him the use of a keyboard that is lowercase, i have given up on the idea of an ABC type.

I have seen a couple of great learning keyboards (Kidglove primary KB etc) but they are expensive for what they are and also limit the type of KB i can let him use.

    Here is my idea

The kidglove KB is just a KB protection cover with some stickers in it.
I have seen std protection covers available for the Apple G5 Bluetooth KB - far more stylish and no wires to get pulled !

I want some idea's or links too where I can buy key stickers in lowercase with a larger font.
    or any other idea's ?

    Thanks

You best bet for key stickers is to go to an office labelling and signs store they will be able to make something up.

If you want something off the shelf , whsmith's have a childrens keyboard which is very colourful with big letters

Just seems odd that no company bothers to do Font mods for KB's .

Youll do him no favours on the whole different layout, maybe if you started him on dvorak, but nothing else, certainly not alphabetical. And whats wrong with learning upercase letters? 4 is entirely old enough to do so.

Yes I know - I have thought long and hard about this subject and already gone over it a thousand time sin my head , 'why learn the same thing twice?'

    BUT..........

Goes against the learning curve at pre-school and primary schools.
Qwerty is not bad and I can cope with its layout - but an ABC layout would aid with alphabetical recognition.

You have to understand how children are taught - Alphabet books are not jumbled about like keyboards.
And lower case take precedent over upper case, regardless of what you think accpetable at what age.
It should be in harmony with what he does at school.

And it should also be as well designed for him as possible.

If an abc keyboard, lowercase, is what you feel he'll get the most out of, then that's what you should look for. There is no point in trying to push a child farther than they can go.

I couldn't read till I was 7/8... When I say read, I mean, at all...
Having people slap down the books that other classmates (who had been reading since c. 4) were reading in front of me would be no help at all... I needed to do things at my own pace.

    Back OT ~ Tried Ebay?

    Agreed !

Tried ebay - won item, then no contact have just had to get paypal to refund me - shame looks the seller was originaly legit but has dropped of the face of the plannet.

Only other retail place wants £35 + for one

This is possibly the best KB and I have seen these in use at some schools.

Buts its going to cost £124 with VAT and shipping
