    molex crimp tool (NOT RJ45)

    Hey guys,

anyone recommend somewhere to get a cheap crimp tool for crimping molex etc pins? I know kustom pcs do one, but it is quite expensive. Cheapest I have seen is Rapid Electronics for approx £17 iirc. I've found some on the web from the US at $10 or so, but by the time you add on p&p it's no cheaper. Makes me think there must be somewhere selling cheap ones over here though...

I know you're supposed to be able to do it with a pair of pliers, but I've tried it, and it isn't happening

    Ideas?

Crimping not = removing. I find the spade crimp bits on the top of most sets of wire strippers do the job nicely.

I know you mentioned you tried pliers already - have you tried a pair of radio pliers (the thin ones)? They worked fine for me (I made some custom connectors for fans etc.)

Yeah, smallish pliers (I use needlenose ones normally) work fine for crimping most small connector pins.

OK thanks - I might try to get some smaller pliers. Presumably you bend the tabs over on themselves, before sqeezing them down onto the wire?

You do, which is why the actually crimping tools are handy. Maplin have them for 4 quid, but i dare say wilkos/motosave do them cheaper:
