Lightbulb So, a Powermac G5 Project begins

*note: It's only a case, no actual mac components inside

Oh why unreal, you already have a fairly good case, nothings wrong with it
Well thats true, but I had a convinient moment that I just had to make the most of it and snap up that chance . Basically, the computer downstairs is broke, and has been the main reason of boredom for my brothers. So, my dad want's to get it working, and I blame the motherboard (its defo the motherboard).

    Go on...
Well he wants a new case, PSU, mobo and RAM for it. It's a sweet ol' Athlon XP system, so that shouldn't be too hard to make for under £100. Now I recently, under a stroke of luck won an X800GT, which means I have to get rid of my processor, and mobo and obviously my current video card. SO I offered it to my dad in trade for a new mobo, processor and case

So then I told him how I've been eyeing up this ultra-hard-to-get-hold-of-on-it's-own case so he let me go for it on ebay... and I got it for £82

I DNT CARE LEIK, I WANA SEE SOMMOR PICTURZZ
Well I just bought the case, I REALLY NEED some ideas, advice and help anywhere possible for this. This will be my first ever mod, but I have much electronics expertise and facilities at my disposal (my dad owns a workshop) so I can make tiny lil circuit boards and things.

So ideally I have these outlines planned
    • As little cutting made as possible. Even the panel of ports on the back will be untouched, and just rerouted to the motherboard
    • No window or chavness, but some cool smoke effects or something would be good
    • Genius internal organisation, maybe some metal panels seperating the PSU compartment etc
    • Needs to be cheap
    • Silent if possible, but not like 0db silent, just not noisy lol

I will post pics when the case gets here. I literally just won the item, my dad hasn't even paid yet. But it looks like the X800GT is going to have a home

The G5 came in this morning A tiny bit smaller than I thought... fantastic condition too, just a minor scratch or two here and there. The only disappointing thing that I found was that the front panel box (the thing that had the audio/firewire/usb ports) was taken out, which was a bit of a bum since I was planning on using that.

Time for the planning to start... I will take some eye-candy pics soon too

Well I got my camera batteries, picture time .. I think this will have to have a 56k warning, but then again a worklog isn't really a worklog without pictures is it, so its probably expected. There aren't that many scratches at all, and theres quite a few bits of dirty prints on here, so that can be dealt with easily. Isn't there like a spray or something I can put on brushed aluminium to hide something more permanant?

I'm planning to keep the back panel intact - this is *hopefully* going to be one mod with hardly any cutting. There is around 1.5cm spacing between the I/O panel and the level where the PCI/AGP cards connect on this thing, and with normal PC motherboards that depth isn't usually there. So perhaps that would give me some room for some rewiring etc.

I'm going to need help here, I am deciding to maybe get the MSI/Sapphire ATI M-ATX motherboard (so I can use the 4 PCI/AGP slots provided with no cutting), but I would rather get a full ATX mobo, such as the Asus SLI board ONLY IF the lower PCI-E slot would support use as the main and only graphics card.

Unfortunately, due to me no longer building a new PC, I'm going to be selling this on ebay within the next week or two. However, if you are interested, whip me a PM, the case has not changed from the pics shown above as I have barely touched it since. I am however not listing it in the for sale/trade forum as there is limited but strong interest in a case like this. I can provide more details upon request...

Actually I might consider listing it...
