    Quite AND cool(ish)?

I'm kinda on a quest for a quite pc, but due to my specs I'm guessing im expecting too much?!

At the moment ive got a Zalman fanless heatpipe on my 9700 pro which seems to raise the cpu temp alot (makes sense). A spark7 on my cpu running @~ 2200rpm... im thinking about getting the zalman fanless northbridge heatsink too, but will this just add to my overall system / cpu temp?

Those HDs aren't known for being too quiet. Do you know the noise output of the HSF and the fans on the PSU? Getting a quiet system is depenant on the sum of the noise of all the parts.

    Spark7:

" Noise: 17 dBA at 20°C, 43 dBA at 55°C " I've got mine set to manual control at the lowest setting so I guess it's running @ 17dba.

    Antec TruePower 430W PSU:

Can't find any info on how loud the fans are? anyone know where to find out?

IMO anything under 20dBA is very very quiet. But not silent. 17dBA thats pretty good if its accurate. My Zalman Flower is meant to be silent, but it isn't.

Im interested in whether the fanless northbridge cooler would add much to the overall system temp?

To get the most out of a passive heatsink, you're best off directing a little airflow over it. This might not sound particularly passive, but as long as there is *some* airflow, eg a low noise, low cfm fan blowing in that general direction, you shouldn't experience any heat problems. That's my take on passive northbridge, cpu and gfx cooling anyway.

There is also, the heatpipe method, where the heat output of the passive heatsink is transported elsewhere, eg, your pc case, but this might get a little fiddly in terms of finding/building/modding suitable equipment, however.
