I've been using an IDE to USB cable in my computer as it is WAY smaller, and attached my CDROM to a USB channel. Works fine, looks neater - no pics, unless you really want to see an empty IDE socket?

none at all - it gets picked up by the bios each time, i can boot from it if i want, and my current xp install was from it - nf4 board btw. I imagine some older BIOS's will have issues though...
Speed, no issue - its still annoying slow to 'spin up' and xfer rate is, well it atleast feels roughly the same. Doubt its faster, certainly isn't much slower, if at all.

Was thinking to doing this to move a drive over a meter from the mobo. Couldn't work out how to get power to the drive.
Where did you get the cable from? I can't find any (although I admit I haven't looked very hard) apart from ebay jobs shipping from the far east which I don't fancy.
I would imagine going around modding supply sites like KustomPcs would be fruitful.
Primary kit:
Fuji S5 Pro - Nikkor AF 50/1.8 - Nikkor AF 85/1.8
Epson RD-1
Film Kit:
Leica M3 - Summicron 50/2 DR - Zeiss ZM 25/2.8 - M-Rokkor 40/2
Olympus OM2n - Zuiko 50/2 Macro - Zuiko 50/1.4 - Zuiko 35/2.8
It was a long time ago, I did use it for work until recently, so can't remember the store name. It certainly had USB in the title though, and has a nice silver braid to it. I would try Kustom first though.
