    New Akasa Zen Case

    Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has heard much about the new Akasa Zen cases, OcUK have just got them in and at £32.84 including Vat (But not postage) they seem very good value. They look pretty good and have two 120mm fans so they could turn out to be great budget cases. They come in two colours, white and black, the links below are all the info I've found:

    http://www.akasa.co.uk/akasa_english...k_zen_01wh.htm

    http://www.akasa.co.uk/akasa_english...k_zen_01bk.htm

Has anyone seen these in the flesh or already has one? Could do with some larger and internal pictures as well.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Right for those that are intrested I've managed to get some larger pictures from Akasa. They are mostly just larger versions of the tiny pictures in the links that HighlandeR provided, but they do give a good impression of what the case is like. Most of them are of the black version, but the inernals will all be the same, there is also a very nice and large image of the white case at the bottom of the list. I've hosted them on my webspace and the links are below:

hmm, not sure I like the exterior of the case - but the internal looks pretty spacious and could be good for building a budget PC

I actually quite like the look, but with things like this its always down to the individual. I personally wouldn't use it for one of my main PC's but it's perfect budget builds, just like the PC I'm building shortly. For the money it's great value, just over £30 for a full sized case with 120mm fans made by a well known company. So like you say it would be perfect for a budget pc build.

i would recon the cooling is pretty good especially as they have just stuck to a basic effective layout.

Indeed, there is however some question over the front intake. The main way for the air to get in is through a space at the bottom of the cases front. At least that's what the pictures show in the OcUK thread.

I'm tempted to spend some more money and go with something like the Antec SOLO, which while it is twice the cost it looks like it's of better quality and has far better features. But I guess it's all down to how much you have to spend.

This case looks more spacious than the Antec SOLO.
I guess it would fit the 1900gt series cards with ease (unlike the SOLO).
Does anyone know if this is a good case to setup a sli/crossfire system. e.g. two 1900 cards in crossfire?

imo, the only thing you really need to worry about with regards to a crossfire setup is heat dissipation. If you get good airflow through the case, then theres no reason why it couldn't be used for a x-fire setup

It does look more spacious but to be honest the Antec SOLO's quality is a cut above due to the price difference. As mentioned above, the main concern with using Crossfire in a case would be airflow and to be honest I can't see it being that great in the Zen with the limited intake at the front.

jeantech phong II has a much better cooling system for a budget case, this new zen is very basic internally and the front intake is supposed to be rubbish

Having read the doomed PC article, it appears that the front intake is sufficient, and by a long way, better than most cases that cost the same. Basic internals is often a good thing in a budget case - as it is less that is likely to break/snap/bend, and can make the installation of components easier for novices.

There's a review of the Zen in this month's CustomPC. They still consider the Phong II to be superior.

The only thing I'm unsure about on the Zen is the front intake.

I went for the Antec 3000B more or less same price with a slightly better intake.
