So, why do the strange Japanese people at Sony, treat the good, honest people of Europe like cretins?
Sony’s European pitch is basically this - Hello silly European people! We've got a special deal for you! If you wait months longer than everyone else did, you can pay much more than everyone else did, for less than everyone else got! Isn't that amazing?! High five!
It’s like they are conducting an experiment on the European gamer psyche. How many times can we slap the gamers of this vast consumer market around the face, before they refused to buy our console?
So what are the reasons behind such an approach? Simply incompetence on Sony’s behalf, a lack of interest or perceived lack of importance of the Euro market?
The software situation is ok, nothing more, so it’s not like they can just rely on the lure of big titles. MotorStorm is getting good reviews and generating a fair bit of excitement, and Fall of Man looks good and plays ok... not that much else going on.
So, people of HEXUS - why the self-destructive approach to the PS3 launch in Europe? What’s the thinking behind offering a striped down, late console, with a jumped up price tag?
People in Europe (UK especially) are so used to getting a raw deal, they might not notice how raw the deal is?
For me, as far as backwards campatability is concerned, if FF7 works, thats all I'm interested in; but its got to be more of an issue for the 20 trillion people with a box full of PS2 games.
Shame Nintendo went for the 'don't release any games worth playing apart from Zelda during the honeymoon period' approach for their Wii console really, or it would be a good purchase.
