It's a good plan, I'm going to order in the blu-ray version of the Planet Earth series, it looked stunning when broadcast, so it should look even better in HD

Well i've had my PS3 for a week now and i can safely say the Xbox wins hands down, the games on the PS3 only play in 720p the online gaming is slow and a bit patchy, the Blue Ray movies are old and out of date, the PS3 Games are PS2 Games with better graphics spiderman3 is superman on the 360 with different clothes / Come on Sony or against the xbox perhaps they should start a sister company Soney you need to do better than this
I think HDDVD will be the norm especially as the Blueray stand alone player is £1200 Apologies to the Sony hard liners but Microsoft have it in the bag i'm afraid (and no i don't work for em)
LOL.
1. A few games are in 1080p such as VT3
2. Online games are fine, no issue with lag
3. Right so movies such as Blood Diamond are out of date
4. Same way as Halo 3 is, in essence, Halo 2 with better graphics
5. XBOX 360 had same issue with games at start and the games that are coming soon outshine the 360
6. Blu-ray is looking a strong contender to be standard format, blockbuster dropping HD-DVD format, most of major movie studios bar 2 support Blu-ray. Blu-ray players have dropped in price and will continue to do so.

Hi Grizzla,
yer well
1Sony have had longer to sort things, all games should be 1080p by now
2 No lag, but its not smooth and seems clumsy in comparison
3 Blood Diamond is one but their advertising Bad Boys 2 ?
4 Never been a fan of Halo so cant comment
5 PS Games seem easy to finish and appeal to the younger market
6 i just watched Casino Royal and it did stop on occasions to cache up
I think were missing the point where’s virtual reality / surely that should be the talk of the town by now, not farting around on out of date PC processors
To be fair i have no experience playing x360 but only jus got my PS3, why should they all be 1080p, not all TVs support it at the moment. X360 doesn't have all games in 1080p and surely having a year head start they should have done more in terms of this as they have consumer and working experience with the console.
I think it is funny you say that PS3 games appeal to younger market, they are specifically targeted at a market; men in their 20s. There are more x360 games based at a younger market ie viva pinata, i dont think that so far there have been any PS3 games marketed at a younger audience.
I am interested to hear what PS3 games you have experience of.
The x360 is obviously gonna have a bigger back catalogue of games, but give the ps3 the same 18 months or so that the 360 has had until now and it will have at least, if not more games available and undoubtedly at a higher calibre than x360.
BTW...
LOL @ virtual reality and out of date PC processors... what exactly are you refering to when u say out of date processors?
As for VR i know people who have personal experience using VR in a research and development field, such as being able to feel an object that is projected in front of them by wearing special sensored gloves. This was a few years back and the tech is still nowhere near at a stage that it could be considered for a commercial market.
Cheers

well said grizzla, alot of the comments that oddball made were wrong and unfair, spiderman 3 is bad on any format!!!!
1. All Sony games only play in 720p? err wrong - i have PS3 games that play in Full 1080P HD something my xbox 360 does not. Maybe you have a dodgy tv?
2. Online gaming - yes its far from perfect right now on the PS3 but i am not having patchy or slow problems you speak off - firstly do you have the latest firmware? second are you using wireless? if so try homeplugs. Breaking news - the PS3 is still fairly new and like any console will improve over time. Home is looking ace so far.
3. Blu-ray movies are old and out of date? i see the nurse did not give you your medication yesterday. Have a look at the following films to see how out of date they are http://www.movietyme.com/catalog/bes....php?cPath=355
Among them - Letters from Iwo Jima/The Departed/Apocalypto all positively ancient aren't they
4. Standalone blu-ray player is £1200? Nope try harder - try £487.00 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-BD-P...2694792&sr=8-2
I think he can say the comments are wrong if factually they are, just like I have.

I don't think people really get the difference between native 1080p and upscaled 1080p. Almost every 1080p TV displays only 1080p, regardless of what's input to it. It's native resolution is 1920x1080 progressive so it displays everything that way, regardless of what's connected.
Regarding the resolution on the consoles, both have the capability to display in native 1080p, as long as the game isn't too graphically intensive. Neither has the power (currently) to display all games at 1080p. Both have some native 1080p games, Virtua Tennis 3 for example. 360 not having HDMI currently doesn't make a jot of difference to it's capability to output at FullHD.
I'm not so sure about the PS3 after the 1.8 update, does it still dictate which res the game is output in ? If so, that's maybe the best way to do it providing you have a recent TV.
However, when you set the 360 dashboard to 1080p output when gaming, it DOESN'T mean you're getting native 1080p/FullHD output. Even if your TV says 1080p, 99% of the time it's 720 upscaled to 1080. As such, if you're playing a non-1080p game, and have a decent TV, you're better leaving the 360 outputting whatever the game's best performing resolution is, and letting your TV upscale to 1080. Regardless of how it's upscaled, what you're looking at on-screen ISN'T FullHD.
The format war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray is far from won, its barely started! DVD is still in a different league sales-wise though, and will stay there for the forseeable.

hi guys
just a quick question - i bought rainbow six for the ps3 but i am finding it is very blurry especially any text on the screen and also very dark - i had to turn the brightness on the tv almost to full and it is still quite dark.
just wanted to know if any of you guys have the same problem as my other games are fine and any solutions to it
cheers
Bel
hi
i found out that Rainbow Six on the ps3 resolution is 720 but it upscales to 1080 and in doing so totally screws up the graphics so if you get a copy you need to manually set the ps3 screen resolution to only 720 or it is basically unplayable and you would need to re-set the settings to automatic for any other games - pain in the arse eh?
found this in a review, hope it helpsOne strange and disappointing issue that we came across however is that though the game supports 1080i, it's quite blurry when played at that resolution. Forcing the system to run at 720p clears this issue right up though and everything looks quite crisp. It seems like the game may just be scaling its 720 signal to the higher resolution to help those with displays that don't support 720p, except that the filtering is pretty poor. This is just a technical guess on our end, but whatever the reason, the game looks much better at 720p than 1080i.
yeah when you choose your HDMI resolutions i select 720p and 1080p but leave 1080i well alone as it wont display on my monitor (via hdmi-dvi), and it looks horrible when i tried it through component cable, just stick with 720p or 1080p
