The jaggies are there, and will remain there.
Its the physics engine thats demanding so much from the processing power, I mean it refreshs the information from the 4 tyres individually (pressure, temprature and wear) 360 times per second! So thats 4320 calulations per second for the tyres alone, then you've got everthing else thats going on in the game.....

I remember reading some long winded explanation about needing to keep it at 60fps graphically (hence the jaggies and lack of AA) to keep it in sync with the 360fps refresh rate of the physics.

that would make sense, as the fps get dumped to 30 in replays, and the AA is improved.

so thats it then? the performance ceiling has been reached? this is the pinnacle of 360 games? **** programming surely?

I'd say the performance ceiling has been reached in terms of physics in racing games thats running at 60fps. Considering the sheer amount of physics refreshing 360 times per second I'd say that its far from **** programming. I mean you've got all the engine wear, suspension (height, dampers, loss of contact with the road), brakes (heat, stopping power and effects on the tyres), air resistance, and the damage modelling... and they've managed to get the 360 to do that for 8 cars at a time, while running at 60fps!

I don't think this is the ceiling in terms of graphics at all though, PGR4 for example looks stunning especially with the rain effects, that is supposed to run at 60fps compared to the 30fps of PGR3.

It can't just be me who think it looks great despite jaggies! I mean I would they made the game good than an expensive tech demo!

the scenery is flat, low res and bland. the cars look like there made of colored mirrors with dandruff on them.

and if the physics are that advance then GTR with its full field of cars must be terrible

Yeah its a bit gloomy graphically, but I already know it not going to stop me palying it one bit. Trying to shave half a second off my lap time with the wheel has kept me going most of this weekend.
I haven't played GTR myself so I cannot comment on that one

Some japs have done some crazy designs, theres some more here at Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/gaming/clip/the-am...obs-264030.php

Think I'll go for the one off eBay, looks good to me. He said it's Chinese writing on the front cover though so it doesn't sound like it's from India.

Never mind the racing, its worth buying this just to pimp cars up. I know I would spend hours customising mine.

By the way, why has it been released in Japan before being released over here or in the US where the 360 is actually selling?
