    Dashboard update list leaked?

    http://www.xbox360rally.com/fall-das...e-list-leaked/

It says Xvid support, that's making me wary. Would have thought they would have gone with DivX (not open source, and easier for average Jo to encode in).

    Can hope though

Apart from the proprietary .divx container format that no-one uses, divx=xvid=MPEG 4 Part 2 ASP.

They are both MPEG 4 part 2 codecs, but Xvid and DivX have differences, excluding the .divx container format. Not huge, granted , but its enough to give some players brain-farts and refuse to play them (even with trying to trick them with a different extension / meta data)

    Re: Dashboard update list leaked?

Great news if it turns out to be true.

I currently have 81 XBLA titles listed and anything that helps me get to the one I want faster is welcome. (Anyone else think MS is aiming for "over 100 downloadable XBLA titles" for their holiday marketing?)

It's about time extra video codecs were included but a broader range would be more welcome.

The "compatible with 3rd party controllers" is interesting as I thought MS wasn't prepared to share that technology?
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

True, I was glossing over a few technicalities. Not all players implement the full MPEG 4 Part 2 ASP standard. To be strictly correct, Divx is a non-standard partial implementation of ASP (no more than 2 b-frames, GMC with only 1 warp-point, MPEG and h.263 matrices only) that was created to accommodate the limited capabilities of early HW decoder chips. This allowed Divx to license their brand-name to manufacturers who were looking for an easy way to market their devices.

More than likely - as well as the kit needed for ROCK BAND

Fingers crossed it is xvid here as well - means I can stream all my media down to the TV and do my bit for the environment by not using CD's and DVD's like their going out of fashion and reducing my usage of them.

    Re: Dashboard update list leaked?

If they'd only do streaming aac, I could save myself re-ripping all my CD's to MP3 instead.

    grrr.

    Cheers,
    Stephen
