I reckon you just wanted to tell the world you had
a : a ps3
b : an HD ready Toshiba 52" DLP with a 1080i res.
to be fair, i would too if i had them
but no mate, not really, the game wont be coded for HD resolution i don' think, so the only noticable diff will be just down to the quality of cabling and general TV goodness, nothing else.
Hes been rubbing it in all day I have to sit next to the muppet.
... and where are you rubbin' it?
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...
personally i'd run it at 720p
1080i at that size you will see all kinds off interlacing lines!
It was on the menu that it drove me nuts (soo much so i dropped down too 720p) because anything that moves REALLY fast, looks a bit streaky.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
The game runs at 720x576 regardless or what HD resolution you have your PS3 set at. From my experiance it looks slighly better than playing it through the ps2 on the same TV, but dont expect anything amazing. Perhaps in a firmware update they'll add the ability to put AA on ps1/2 games, and readd the texture smoothing for PS1 games similar to what the PS2 did.

When playing PS1/2 games theres no upscaling to HD resolutions what so ever. It outputs both at 576i so their slighly enhanced (PS2 was 480p by default i think and PS1 something even lower). This is for a PAL machine atleast, I'm not sure if the orignal JAP/US ones do things differently due to having the PS2 chip onbaord.
Well, the Jap (and maybe US?) versions of GT4 had HD modes in them that the European version did not.
I do have an original jap version of GT4, but a Euro PS3.....I presume sony enforce region encoding for PS2 games?
Otherwise, i might give it a blast tonight and see what it looks like.....

Well i tried GT4 on my PS3 and i would say it did look a bit better in terms of colours and sharpness however i did notice some glitching in the top left hand corner of the screen also when going fast the screen would intermittantly go blank for a second or so...wierd? dont know if this is due to the euro PS3 only having software backwards compatability rather than hardware on the Jap/US PS3's would be interesting to know if anybody with a Jap/US PS3 could try a copy of GT4 on there's?
I know this is a bit of a late reply, but...
Sony list GT4 on their PS2/PS3 compatibility list as "Should play on PLAYSTATION®3 with noticeable issues". Hopefully they'll be sorting most of them out with the next firmware update. If they do, I'll definately grab a copy off ebay to play before GT5 (or whatever they'll call it) coms out.
<git mode> Well fortunately for me, I don't have any issues playing back old PS2 games with interlacing, as I run everything through my 1080P projector on my 2.5m screen.</git mode>
have to say though, standard def at big sizes doesn't look that pretty
