ps2 lens starting to not read games

ps2 lens starting to not read games

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i have a ps2 black big type, version 7 i belive since it says spch 30005?

its not starting to read dvd games
plays blue cd games -some snooker game
plays sonic heros - its a silver back so i presume dvd
    audio cds ok
    dvds ok

but it doesnt play street menance (silver base) stays on blank screen after ps2 splash screen, and getaway (silver base) loads trailer bits but when i press start it just says loading forever and u can hear cd is just spinning

i opened it up but did not open the cd lens cover part coz i dont want to play with sensitve area yet (aint cleaned the lens with q tip yet). air dust everywhere, ran dvd lens cleaner kit 5 times (its a dvd with brushes on it). cleaned cds with wet wipe.

now it plays getaway flawlessly but still same problem with street menance and st menance cd is slightly scratched ...after the ps2 splash screen it just stays blank screen

    - do i just use a cotton swap and wipe the lens and hopefully that should work??
    - or do i wipe cd with toothpaste to hopefully grit smoother?

Are the scratches deep? If they are then you'll need to get new games. Otherwise it sounds as though your PS2 is faulty.

not deep deep. most of the scratches are on the outer of the cd not inner so i thought it would have been ok. u know the type of scratches u get when u get like 6 in a row like a scratch from a paw

beacase i stood on the cd and it slipped against laminiated floor boards

I've no idea. If the scratches on the disc aren't deep then it would suggest a laser problem. But that wouldn't explain why some discs work and others don't

Yep test the games in a different PS2,

i had a problem like this ages ago and had to send it off, turned out to be a laser problem and they sent me a refurbished one for £60. that was about 2 years ago though.

I was getting disk errors with my old ps2 and then used one of those disk cleaners and it worked perfectly after again. Then later started getting disk errors again that wouldnt stop after cleaning the lens. It would work fine with some games, but with others would never recognise the disk. Just sold it in the end...

You have to unscrew your PS2. Then, use Dettol on a cotton bud and wipe the lens. Let it dry and then assemble it back again.

I remember doing this with a good guide I found after googling. Can't remember which one !

TAKE CARE - Disconnect silvery cable from POWER switch before taking off hood completely.
