Paramount shifted over to HD-DVD exclusivity last week, too. That's films like... Transformers, and Shrek the Third, and stuff.
Someone really screwed the pooch with this thread title.
Yup, a 12 month last ditch effort, after they took a $150 million bung..
Toshiba have started the "buy a player, get 8 free movies" deal everyone slated Sony as being desperate for the other day too..
*shrug*

lol yeah - there is a version for the yanks that has her doing narration, but the copy i have and the one available from movietyme is most certainly by the master Dave
Note: this edition features the original narration by David Attenborough
Yeah its so clearly incorrect isn't it? a format with nearly double the capacity of the other and outselling it 2:1
Last week, Home Media Research released a study revealing that Blu-ray had just outsold its competitor, HD DVD, by 2-to-1 for the first half of 2007. To be specific, HD DVD movie sales only reached about 795,000, while Blu-ray reached 1.6 million. To be even more specific the popular Spartan epic, ‘300′, which became the fastest selling High-Def movie, sold 190,000 Blu-ray discs and 97,000 HD DVDs (approx 2-to-1 again). Even the popular movie rental service, Blockbuster Video, which began offering rentals of both formats in late 2006, announced in June 2007 that they have decided to drop HD DVD and stock Blu-ray in all stores.the Blu-ray has a much larger storage capacity holding up to 50GB total (25GB/layer). The HD DVD can only hold 15GB/layer, therefore totaling a max of 30GB
Thing is, it is selling with the techies. The average joe hasn't got a clue what blue-ray is or HD-DVD nor do they care that is has double the capacity, nor do they care it is outselling HD-DVD 2:1, they just don't care, simple as.
A mate of mine works in blockbuster and after talking to him about it from time to time it would seem that in his store a). the customers don't know what a HD-TV is b). They don't realize you need a HD-TV for a HD Format to work as it should, c). They are completely baffled by blue-ray/HD-DVD disks and movies d). They don't realize you need a HD player to play the disks and e). they really aren't psyched about Blueray, they really couldn't give two hoots about it.
My mate has said that hardly anyone is interested in blue-ray, it is more of a mystery to them than anything else and when they discover they haven't got the equipment to play it properly they just ask for it on DVD, some are still asking for VHS tapes.
Don't sit too high on your chair either when talking about back handers here and hand shakes the when paramount/dreamworks decide to go HD-DVD, because I bet that the blue-ray camp has done the same or similar to get so many studios on side.

It's an 18-month exclusivity deal. Do any of the Blu-Ray backing studios have to support Blu-Ray for any length of time that we know about, or can they all abandon it, say, this Friday?
Thanks, again, for your purely US stats. Americans may think this planet is called America, but us Europeans should at least pay some attention to stuff that happens outside the US.
I humbly apologise if you actually do live in America, Barrichello. But as you've said in other threads that you import PS3 games from the US, I highly doubt it.
ahhh sorry dorza, i read it wrong. 1.6 million techies, all popping out and buying blu-ray. tbh i only look for films i really like and there are some on hd-dvd and some on blu-ray!!Thing is, is it is selling with the techies. The average joe hasn't got a clue what blue-ray is or HD-DVD nor do they care that is has double the capacity, nor do they care it is outselling HD-DVD 2:1, they just don't care, simple as.

I thought you were asking if it is selling with the techies, it read, "Thing is, is it selling with the techies" is how i originaly read it, cus your were answering your own question! but after i re-read it i got what you were saying so i edited it. confused now i am.
Sony are releasing a couple of new Blu-Ray players.
This was the bit that caught my eye:
Unless I'm mistaken, does that mean Spider-Man 3 will be out on Blu-Ray before DVD here? It's a tempting bundle, for sure - two great films and a good one, and all good-looking and suited for HD! No pricing details yet, though.Originally Posted by The Inquirererer

No need to apologise as i do not live in America and sorry to burst your bubble but Europe's market means diddly if the face of America and Asia's consumer base. China's leading distributors and pc manufacturers are embracing Blu-ray now as well
