Super Mario Galaxy Will Bee Great!
Just been on IGN.com, see whats happening with the build up to E3, and apart from a first look at Mario Kart for the Wii, complete with online mulitplayer races and battle mode (sweet - Q1 2008), there was some good Mario Galaxy stuff.
Firstly the game has been dated - November 12th. Remember, remember the 12th of November.
Secondly, there is a very nice new gameplay movie, which is short but sweet. All the usual Mario stuff, including... OMFG... ZOMG... Bee Mario!
I can't link to the video as at the moment you have to be an IGN Insider to view it, but I'm sure you can track it down.
Finally a statement from Nintendo that the 'big 3' (Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, Metroid Prime 3) will all launch this year.
In the immortal words of Phil Tufnell - Happy days! :woowoo:
Re: Super Mario Galaxy Will Bee Great!
I liked Mario 64 alright (the camera angles still seem twitchy to me to this day), and I didn't dare touch Sunshine with a 10-meter pole. Galaxies looks interesting, I s'pose, but I still hold Mario 3 (*maybe* Mario World) as the best of the series, and I'd really like to see a future Mario game reapture that feel, either in 2D or 3D. Later Mario gaes never felt like Mario games to me, really. They were good games, yes (and M64 truely changed the gaming world), but I fear that old feeling will never quite be recaptured. *sigh*

If there is a failing of Mario64, its the camera, yes. No so much twitchy, but it seems to be able to go everywhere, apart from the one place you want it to go.
Sunshine was a solid game - not as good as the best Mario games, but then, what games are? As a package, its still better than most.

Have you tried New Super Mario Bros on the DS? Still captures that original 2d platform gameplay but with some nice 3d sprites and graphics.

Thats my biggest complaint...the best Mario games in the last 10 years are on portables!! I have the same complaint with the Final Fantasy remakes...
Re: Super Mario Galaxy Will Bee Great!
Well yes, but then the last 'proper' Mario game that did the usual Mario 'best game ever' thing was Mario 64 way back in '96. So the follow-up has been a long time coming.
I have every faith that Galaxy will take its place alongside Mario World and 64 as the game that will define this generation of consoles, as it has for most previous generations.
Think back to the 16bit days - Mario World is the finest game from that generation. Then the 32-64bit generation of the Dreamcast, Playstation, N64 generation - best game Mario 64. Before both of those the 8bit NES and Master System days - toss up between Mario Bros and Mario Bros 3.
Noone else gets a look in really.
