    Taking Care Of Your PS2

i have a 4-year old PS2 (the original big black one) and since then it hasn't bog down or had any errors in reading my games, etc. it's "untouched" meaning it hasn't been modified and it's an original PAL version. my question is: do i need to "update" the software of my PS2? and do you guys advice cleaning the inside by running a CD cleaner or something? any other advice or sugestions on this subject matter?

Why tinker with it when it works?

Just leave it Gino. I know a few people who've had one since day one and they've never had a problem, it's not worth breaking it trying to fix a problem you haven't got.

You don't need any software updates either.

how about playing a dry lens cleaner or cleaning the fan...would that "improve" my PS2? and would you recommend a multi-purpose/anti-bac (the ones you buy at tesco or asda) wipe in wiping the exterior?

Yep, the only things I play on PS2 are: Final Fantasy XII, Kingdom Hearts, Okami or Singstar (one or the other). Four cracking titles!

well i personaly would give it a clean inside and out, this is because i've had mine since day 1. A few days ago started saying "disc read error" on the purple disc. Gave it a clean, now it's good as new:tup:

The trick to a long life PS2 I think is to not play too many DVD's on it. I would agree with the statement about "if it aint broke". I to have one of the old style boxes and I am pretty scared even running a lens cleaner on it.
