well there's been loads of rumours surrounding this one... and Sony have got an "Announcement" to make on the 12th Oct, but it looks like play.com have already made their minds up if its true or not...

interestingly it says there are only 2 usb slots, (can't remember how many are on the 60gig version) and there's no backwards compatibility with PS2, (again, I thought it was all done by software anyway on Euro models...)

The rumored price is correct as is the price drop on the 60GB version. All in all it wasn't a well kept secret, maybe thats how Sony wanted it anyway.

60GB is being dropped in favour of an 80GB version.
so if u were buying a ps3 u really want the 60gb version?
the 60gb version has more usb ports, the memory card reader, and the ability to play ps2 games
do any of the above matter to you?

Providing the SKUs stay the same, I'll be going for the 40GB version myself in the coming months, its cheaper to run as well.

Apparently you can get 80gb and 20gb versions from japan. all ps3 games are region free, although movies aren't. Not sure what the situation is with them being back compatible though? And, there is a white version too (not sure if its out yet).

I'd advise to go with a US ps3, 60gb @$300, with the jap console it's got content lock, i'm playing uncharted at the mo and i know a few people that have the jap console and they cant get any blood in uncharted and its down to the jap ps3 console (not game).
If you live in the UK and order outside of Europe you will need to be careful of import fees, these can push the price of the PS3 up. Probably would still make it cheaper than buying from the UK!

True. But with the 60gb version no longer available in the UK, people may still be inclined to pay that bit extra! Thank god I bought mine when I did
