Super Mario Galaxy Owns Your Big Fat Mom!

Not my words, the words of all the reviews that are springing up.

    IGN - A Halo 3 beating 9.7

    GameSpot - 9.5

    Eurogamer - 10\10 (Stupid score)

    GamePro - ZOMG!

All good ratings as you can see, but look at these words about it, with your eyes:

'Super Mario Galaxy is one of the greatest platformers I have ever played, Wii's best game, and an absolute must-own experience.'

'Expect to be blown away by the fantastic level challenges and galactic variety. Expect to be blown away by the addictive gravity effects -- you will jump off ledges just to see if you can rotate all the way around a structure. And expect to be blown away by the tight controls and beautiful graphics.'

'Nintendo's Tokyo studio has created a platformer that deserves its place among the very best and will surely be remembered in another decade as a classic.'

'A worthy sequel to Mario 64 and one of the most charming, wonderful games we've played all year.'

120 Stars worth of goodness. Now I will stop playing Halo3 for a bit, and replace the n00bs shouting 'LOLLYTHON!!1 Sniper hax!!1' with some crafted, quality single player gaming. Just like the olden days.

Credit where credit is due. Trying to do a proper follow up to Mario 64 is like trying to write the next part of the Bible trilogy. Tricky.

If the Big N pulls that off, its worth a mention.

If this was Super Karate Machine Gun Roller Blading With Tony Hawks (Or BioShock) on the 360, there would be loads of threads by now.

I won't believe it. Metroid Prime 3 got huge reviews and it's the biggest pile of steaming stuff I've had the misfortune to spend my 30 quid on in a long time.

I won't be trusting a review again for sure

Re: Super Mario Galaxy Owns Your Big Fat Mom!

The thing with reviews is that they don't cover everyones tastes.

For example, naruto on the 360 - A lot of reviews said it was "alright" and "pretty good" but I feel they've written these without playing it for x amount of hours.

YES - the first parts of the game are pretty boring, but this is because you've not unlocked all the skills and once you start to do this, the game blossoms from average to cracking good fun in my eyes.

Oh and thanks Lowe - I was going to order Metroid but I'll not bother now if you are saying it's that bad

Re: Super Mario Galaxy Owns Your Big Fat Mom!

Yeah but you don't need a review for this - its the new 'proper' Mario game.

Did you need a review to tell you Super Mario Bros was special? Or that Super Mario World was great? Did you need a review to explain to you why Mario 64 was an amazing 3D platformer? Or why Mario Kart was a laugh?

I think you'd have to be a cross between a Goth and a Welsh manic depressive to not get enjoyment from this game.

Some games are above reviewing, for the right or wrong reasons. Mario games, GTA, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Sonic (back in the day), and of course, Halo.

Should have read the Edge review then, gave it a 7. Went against the majority of most of the review sites.

As for Mario, i'll be getting this, hopefully its better than Sunshine (can't be hard really)

Goes off to look at the release date, and see if i have money for yet another game

Try it before you buy it. I thought it was shocking, extremely dull repetitive rinse and repeat stuff. Not amused...

    Defo trade in material!

Re: Super Mario Galaxy Owns Your Big Fat Mom!

Downloaded both the video reviews from IGN and gamespot, started to watch, then realised that I didnt want to see that much of the game or the enemies - kinda like a spoiler I guess. Just a bit of impatientness on my part!

But what i did see - that i havent seen i other videos - looks fantastic, if a little confusing, but the gameplay seems to have been raved on. I might be good and hold off so that the wife can actually get me something I *want* for Christmas, as I currently have 5 games that need my time first (And that will be six soon when Lego star wars comes out)... But I reckon I'll break once someone makes a thread about how great it is

    JP

Oh @ Lee - Metroid isnt THAT bad - but its all opinions I guess, so heres mine. Nice controls, good combat - slightly tedous exploration, and good graphically (No honestly). I would try to pick up a second hand copy maybe if you dont want to top full price for it. But IMO I think its worth a punt, but then I do love my FPSs

Re: Super Mario Galaxy Owns Your Big Fat Mom!

I'm going to get this for Chrimbo, so I'll have something to look forward to for the first Chrimbo for many years I'm so pleased for Nintendo having read the reviews and just can't flippin wait for this. You can keep your Halo, your Bioshock, your Gears of War, your Crysis... it's all 2nd tier pap when compared to the greatness of Nintendo.
