PS3 with divx news

Hi all

here is what i found out

Sony will add-in support for DivX in their PlayStation 3. This news is launched tomorrow in public by a press release but off course, as it sometimes happen, we are just a tidy bit faster to report it (yet not the first as someone leaked :-) ). The release starts with stating over 1.000.000 DivX Certified products are out there and the new agreements with Sony will significantly expand that number. Now I wonder if the next step would be integrating DivX Connected into a new PS3 model as that might benefit PS3 as well, becoming a full media system instead of just a gaming and Blu-ray sytem. It would actually almost be perfect if they had HD DVD instead of Blu-ray, so it's good news that also Xbox might add DivX Video soon, be it then I'm not too fond of Microsoft fro it's DRM and force of extenders). Well, full press release about DivX inside PS3 inside this news bulletin!

divx itself is nothing special - it's an mpeg4 part 2 implementation, like xvid or 3ivx. as long as it plays files (in the right container) made with other mpeg4 part 2 codecs, i'll be pleased, but it's not yet the holy grail of media playback

I am excited about this, hopefully it will work well and I can just hookup a fully loaded 500GB External HDD as opposed to streaming with TVersity.

I hooked up my PS3 and PC through TVsersity last night for the first time and I gotta say I was very disappointed with the results. I just hope that the DivX addition will help this!

I know what you mean Nick. I am streaming my media via wifi and sometimes it is great but other times it pauses and stutters alot. Which PS3 did you buy in the end then?

I got the 40GB version with Fifa 08 and Spiderman 3 on Blu-ray for £314.99 from Gamestation. Could not find any of the 60GB anywhere including online.

Just increased the display resolution in TVsersirty setting to the maximum my LCD could take and its a dramatic difference.

I can imagine the true DivX support will be even better though.

What did you set the resolution to in TVersity? Also whats your PSN ID, it would be good to add some friends online as all my buddies have 360's.

Resolution is set at 1024 * 768 which is the max my LCD can support. All video footage looks good though

I finally got the DivX update on my PS3, but it`s not working. Is anyone having this problem, I`ll just have to continue using my 3rd party program.

Weird.

All my Divx/xvid films play great on the ps3 since the latest update. Not sure why you are having this problem

As mentioned above, it all depends on the container used. If they are an unusual format then that may be the problem.

I'm having issues..

Got me PS3 yesterday

I'm connected to the PC, got a load in the Media Library but "No Titles" is shown when i try to browse through the "All Videos/All Music"

Sounds more like a networking issue - if it was a divx issue you would still see a name film title etc - you just wont see the divx sign next to it. I had a really old divx film i found that didnt work on the ps3 but you could still actually "see" it. All the newish divx files i got work fine.

None of mine showed up when normally just going to video, but worked when I went 'Show All' or whatever it is (pressing triangle to show all files thing) with my USB key. My 360 however, des not seem to like to play divx for some reason.
