Current 360's should have had the RROD fixed due to using better solder and an additional heatsink. I guess time will tell though

Its not proven to be the case so far, but tbh, the homebrew fix to the RROD problem is pretty easy, did my voided warrenty console and its been stable ever since. Even did the fan shroud mod and it seems to run cooler.

    Re: 65nm Falcon 360's

Well, I've decided to throw caution to the wind and got myself an Elite yesterday from Argos. It has a Lot number 741 and Team FDOU but its grand opening isn't until the 25th! So ill report back on the drive noise if any.

Its on the left side of the box next to the bar codes.

I've managed to locate the flap for the serial number at the top of the box. Above the serial number is the manufactor date of 13/10/2007, so thats the same batch as gt81's xbox elite, so i might have the same type of dvd drive/noise level.

    Re: 65nm Falcon 360's

I've just got a Lot # 0738 from game its got a 175watt psu (this is also displayed on the white label on the outside of the box, it says 175w instead of 203w) so definately a falcon and its got a benQ drive. Compared to my brothers 0735 premium (non falcon with hitachi drive) its ALOT quieter and cooler at both idle and load (when running games).

    Re: 65nm Falcon 360's

Looking for the 175w PSU seems to be the way to tell if you have a falcon. But yeah, they still use a combination of drives, so you may end up with a noisy brute.

No xclamps on my 360 either, but I still got the 3 rrod after the fix. Sorted it out by blasting the motherboard inthe oven for ~17 at ~180 degrees. Seemed to melt the solder & let it reflow and it's been working like a charm since.

Couldn't send my 360 back to MS for repair as I voided the warranty by changing the fans and spraypainting the case black. The Elite was far from being announced and I was too cheap to buy a new case!

    Re: 65nm Falcon 360's

Well, it was dead & non returnable, so figured it was worth a try.

    And it was!

Been running fine for over a month now.

    Re: 65nm Falcon 360's

Just make sure you take the motherboard out of the metal tray. I didn't, as I'd done the x-clamps replacement, and was too lazy to undo all the work. The blue-push pins that activate the eject function and the wireless sync button melted.

I'm currently using a paper clip to eject the tray, until I can be bothered finding a way to fix it!

On a side note, seems Game (Or maybe GameStation, can't remember what I told) are doing 360 Arcade units for £160 in store for a limited period.

    Re: 65nm Falcon 360's

I thought I'd report back on my new Xbox 360 Elite. Well it runs nice and cool, compared to my friend's Xbox Core version he got last year, which produces enough heat out the back to fry an egg within a couple minutes!
I also tested the Dvd drive by playing film DVDs, music cds and it seems very quiet. The only noise genereated by the 360, was when playing a game the fan speed increased it seemed. It didnt have noise coming from the dvd drive, though its hard to be sure.
I wonder if DVD drive speed increases during game play (faster than DVD film speed for example), thus increasing the noise?

Happy New Year for tonight by the way!

The drive runs at 12x speed when reading games.
