Thoughts on this? If you've got it.
Was thinking of picking this up over Xmas to play with the family. Looks good, but does it play good? And what's multiplayer like?

I havent really heard that much about it, read the occasional article and review about it, but it appears that its meant to be fairly enjoyable - you know, maybe a second hand pickup...
But the Wii is crying out for a proper Track and field game. I mean, just copy the arcade game and i would be happy doing the 100m against a mate forever! They could just replicate the button mashing with the mechanic used in Lego Star Wars, where you pump alternate arms... that would work pretty well (Sorry I know off thread)
JP
looking at the advert that's exactly what they do for the 100m with the wiimote and nunchuks..

Bought this last week but we've only had about 30mins on it so far.
So far pretty good.
There's about 20 events Track (100m, 4x100m, 100m hurdles, 4x100m hurdles), Field (Javelin, Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump, Hammer Throw), Swimming (not sure on the types), Shooting (Clay Pigeon, Archery) and a few others (trampolining, fencing, rowing). I'm a bit vague on it as they're not all unlocked, you have to complete certain events to unlock all the events. We've only done running, shooting and swimming, so here goes...
Running and Hurdles are quite fun... you shake the wii remote and nunchuck up and down to run and hit B to hurdle like on the tv advert.
Shooting is not bad but a LOT harder than say the shooting on Wii Play you need to set your target size first and then there's 8 sets of pigeons to shoot.
Freestyle swimming is great for what the wii is best at - making you glad you shut the curtains - there are about 8 different swimming styles (e.g breaststroke, crawl, butterfly etc) and each character uses one particular style which requires certain movements with the remote and the nunchuck.
You can play as any of about 25 different characters from Sonic and Mario - grouped into Speed / Style / Power / All-Rounder - Or you can use a Mii if you want.
Also worth mentioning you don't need a nunchuck to play, it can be done with just a remote (except maybe the swimming) - but I would definately say it's worth having nunchucks.
In the end this game is NOT to sports games what Gran Tourismo is to car racing games. But it is good fun, it makes good use of the wii controls, you really will be stood up playing it like on the tv advert. It's not silly easy like Wii Sports or Wii Play - it's something you will get better at the more you play and learn the techniques, and it has the added "how daft must we look" element that only the Wii can give.
