PES on Wii
PRESS RELEASE: Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH to bring best-selling Pro Evolution Soccer series to Wii
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced it will be bringing its multi-million-selling Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) series to Nintendo Wii™, with a bespoke version of the game being developed for the system for release in 2008.
Scheduled for a Q1 launch, the Wii version of PES will offer the same level of realism that has established the series as the definitive football title, but has been undergone a radical rethink to make the most of the Wii’s motion-sensitive control system. The game will make full use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers, offering total control over every aspect of the players and their movements both on and off the ball. The clever use of the Wii controllers will allow users to send players running into space, and to distribute the ball with ease.
“We are extremely keen to introduce PES to as wide a selection of football fans as possible, and the Wii and its unique abilities are a perfect fit,” commented Jon Murphy, Pro Evolution Soccer Team Leader for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “The potential for PES on the format is enormous, and we look forward to a very exciting start to 2008.”

Re: PES on Wii
Nice pics, though its obviously the controls rather than the graphics that will matter on the wii.
I dont suppose anyone knows exactly what the motion sensing etc will be used for - I dont fancy having to spend half a second shaking the nunchuck when I want to send a snap pass/shot...

Check out some of the gameplay movies here:

Looks cool and not just waggle to pass. I think its more about using the IR to enable 360 degreees of passing freedom, or something like that. Saw some videos and i have to say that it looked pretty cool really, but would I get it over the PC version, I dunno....

Re: PES on Wii
Just to update this thread now PES 2008 is out, I've been playing it for a couple of nights and have to say i think its amazing, sod fifa or anything else out there. This game is by far and away the best and most inivative football game ever.
The goals i've scored feel so good, getting the pass going exactly where you want it running on and then slotting the ball past the keeper is so fun.
The game modes also feels sublime.
If you like football then i have to recommend this.

Re: PES on Wii
What are the graphics like in game on this? Is there online multiplayer and is it any good? I'm close to getting Fifa08 on the 360, now I'm not sure :/

Re: PES on Wii
To me, this is the first game for the Wii that a 3rd party developer actually thought about the depth of the Wii control and try to maximised its benefits.
Amazing.
Now if only other 3rd party developers think the potential of the Wii rather than always thinking of "porting", "mini games" and "brain training games"...(i.e. trying to gain a quick buck by creating the most stupid lowest common denominator game).
The potential for the wii controls is amazing. If the following really used the wii controls fully, the Wii really is the next generation console:
1. FPS
2. Tennis
3. Boxing
4. MMORG
etc

Re: PES on Wii
[Deep Breath]....
Nipped into Sainsburys to do some shopping and caved in finally and bought this. Was quite late so only managed to get through the training and one or two games against the computer, then a few online attempts. I’ll give you my initial (and very early) opinions:
Graphically, not that fussed. I always used to play using the most zoomed out camera possible as it lets you see more of the field of play, and this version only has 2 camera types. Both are quite well zoomed out (due to the nature of play) and only the elevation is changed. I think that its fine for the game, and the framerate it nice and constant.
Onto the bones of the game. When you start a new profile, you are straight away chucked into a boot camp to go through the new controls. They are only the basic ones but worth doing. To be honest, its worth then going into a free training mode to practice passing and moving for a while to get used to it. I thought that it was quite intuitive to run with the ball and to pass, whether long, short or throughball. What I found initially tough was getting players to free run (Getting them to move where you want them to go). I just had a little trouble clicking on them accurately to drag them, because of the zoomed out view. That said, its just something that you get used to, and after the few games I’ve played its already much better…
Anyway, I felt prepared to have a proper game, so onto an exhibition match. Formation settings are different, but you just have to learn the new icons for the player attributes – fine after a while. Swapping players is done using A+B, like picking up Miis in the Mii channel. The placement of players in a formation can also be changed like this. Its fast and intuitive.
The game itself. Just started one on the default difficulty (3 stars against a moderate team) and began. Passing is definitely fun to do, as is getting players to move down the wing then play it to them. What I did find (Which may be the fault of the team I was playing against) is that the computer tended to bunch the midfield. This meant that wing play was great with the new controls but it was a bit trickier to do intricate passing and movements off the ball through the centre of the park.
Managed to score a few goals in my first game, nothing fantastic, but at least its not impossible to score, which is always good! Shooting with the nunchuck is a little pants, and you cant really aim, but I guess that leaves you to concentrate on creating a clear opportunity with the right player.
Defending, if you’ve read anywhere, is definitely trickier. I’m still reading the manual to learn the ins and outs of what you can do, but it’s a lot tougher to tackle. You can however, select players to mark and who to tackle. I tend to think of defending as selecting which opposition players for the computer AI to focus on, instead of controlling players directly. I think that it will easier with more experience though.
Generally, not as bewildered as I thought after the first game, just not able to manipulate players as easily as I though I might (But expected I guess…). On gripe that I do have is the on screen display. You can choose to have names or nothing above a player. I like to know which player I am controlling, as I know their strengths (Left foot, right foot, pace) and hence what to do, but the names are shown quite large… Couple that with an overly large cursor and arrows and in tight spaces, I found myself losing the player and what I was doing. Would have been nice to have the option to display the player number, as that would have been enough to identify the player.
Next was online. I managed to connect – no friends yet, will post my number soon if you fancy a game – so it had to be a random match. The first one that I had was pretty laggy, and a bit weird, dribbling one way they suddenly the ball is somewhere else. It was basically a bit rubbish… I even quit out and used Opera to check my connection speed, which was a steady 2mb… went back in and tried again. Same. One more (was about 12 now) and it was fantastic. Had a great game with someone, a proper passing and moving game, and no lag. Played really well to be honest and was impressed. It’s a shame that they didn’t implement something like in Mario Strikers charged where you can get a list of players to connect to, and have a rating which represents their connection (90% sure that it wasn’t my connection causing the problem) – Will have to see really – its on wireless, but might have to invest in a LAN adaptor to see the diff…
Basically, impressed with the game, with more practice I think it will be great. Hopefully online will be slightly better, and I’ll have to see about the other game modes. At work now but will post my wii code soon – hope to catch you online!

Re: PES on Wii
Its definatley a cracker, really innovative. I do agree that shooting is a bit of a letdown though. I also have played this through component on my TV and then through composite at my parents and found it really much more difficult to see on the CRT TV that they have.

Re: PES on Wii
I'm not surprised the online is laggy, its the same on ps3/360 too.

Re: PES on Wii
Well, in all fairness, I did have a pretty flawless game at the end, so I do wonder if its to do with the variation in peoples connnections - but meh - need to practice more before heading online again!
