how to connect xbox360 to my monitor..
if theres one thing i have never understood, its connections.
Luckily ive just bought a xbox 360 and should be delivered in the next couple of days! :) so this is the reason for this thread
now i really do not know how to connect the xbox to my monitor (2407wfp), it has the following connections:
Dell 2407WFP Specifications
Analog (VGA)
Digital (DVI with HDCP support)
Component
Composite
S-Video
and i have a set of logitech Z-5400 speakers which id also like to connect, im currently using DVI to connect my PC and the analogue jacks for the sound. i think i can have digitial input from the speakers (coaxial?) and as for the video input to the monitor, hdmi to DVI converter? but that would mean changing the plug everytime i would want to play the box... :surrender:
what would be the best way to go about this?
thanks
Re: how to connect xbox360 to my monitor..
who do you trust more - dell's scaler or microsoft's?
you can connect your 360 to the monitor through ALL the connections you list.
vga, dvi, and component will all allow an HD image. vga will require you to buy an extra cable (the 360 vga cable), dvi will require you to buy a DVi-HDMi adapter and swap the connections over all the time. what does that leave?
Re: how to connect xbox360 to my monitor..
I personally got a VGA cable for my Xbox 360 and 2407 and connect my PC through DVI. It's then just a case of switching which input I use rather than plugging/unplugging cables. I don't have any complaints with this setup, but then I'm not the most picky person when it come to quality. The VGA cable comes with a stereo composite audio as well, or you can use optical for sound.

i do the same as gerrard works wonders for me also
and i plug the audio cinnectors from it up to my pc surround sound and just press a switch
Re: how to connect xbox360 to my monitor..
Same. VGA for 360, DVI for PC and optical to my DVD players 5.1 sound system.
works great.

360 over component for me, with a TOSLINK cable to my AVR :)
Re: how to connect xbox360 to my monitor..
VGA to my CRT. My CRT seems to give a better picture, but has troubles with 1080i/p, even though it supports up to 1920x1440
Re: how to connect xbox360 to my monitor..
I prefer the component HD cable you get with the system. When I had it hooked up via VGA was getting a lot of image tearing. At least with the component I am running in 720p and it looks awesome (noticed that the image isn't as good running it in 1080i).
Granted the VGA tearing may have had something to do with my TV's refresh rate but not so bothered now that it is running fine with my current setup.

steve, where do you get a TOSLINK cable from? i had a quick look around and they seem very scarce online. this would work fine with my speakers? and is toslink the same as digital audio?

there are two types of digital audio - optical (toslink) and coaxial (spdif). you can convert between them

Well I've got the same monitor as you - the Dell 2407wfp. You need a Xbox.com | Catalog - Xbox 360â„¢ Component HD AV Cable to connect it to your monitor, for 1080i gaming. As Blademrk says, get one of those cable - I use one to connect to my Logitech 5500 5.1 speakers.

one of these comes in the box for everything but the bottom-of-the-range arcade/core model of 360
