I think my Xbox 360 is about to die!

Hey, this is happening to me too, although it only seems to happen in RB6 online. Although to be fair i have been playing that game alot in anticipation of Vegas 2 coming out in march.
I bought mine in Nov 2006, is that one of the first batches?

This is it. It only happens on Rainbow Six Vegas online and during gameplay when there's loads happening (explosions, gunfire, etc). The GPU would be going at full tilt as would the NIC. I'll need to try another game and see if the problem persists.

I'm not averse to buying a cooler or a new Xbox. I'm more concerned about downtime and losing the information held on the HDD of my Xbox.

Vegas ran fine on mine... mines over a year old so not one of the new 45nm or upgraded cooler versions.

I've heard most of the coolers aren't all that great, I'm lucky because mine is near my very, very old window which lets out heat better than a broken barn door so probably helps keep it cool!!

The only game my Xbox always seems buggy with is Just Cause, didn't play it much because of that...

Mine is away for repair at the mo, does anyone know if when they are away for repair they fit the newer 45nm processor or the old super hot version?

Nope, they just add a heatpipe & new heatsink to the GPU.

Oh well, at least they do somthing, i did have a cooler on mine and i just ripped of the grill from underneath and it now pulls much more air through, might need to dust it a little more often though.

have you tried any of the third party coolers you can buy, my brother owns the xbox 360 elite, and he bought 1 that has 3 30mm fans on it and it clips right onto the back and pulls air out of the machine, the air coming out of it is always very hot also, worth a shot if you have around £25 ($49) to spend.
it should also extend the life of the newer xbox 360s if it keeps it cooler

Agreed, those coolers cause more problems than they cure. Which is easy as they cure nothing.

Depending on which one you've got, if its using a passthrough for the psu, then you can burn out the psu connector on the xbox. Loads have had the warrenty revoked because of it. Also, fan on fan does nothing.

Not only that, but putting a fan on a fan is extremely stupid.
Putting 3 smaller fans on 2 larger ones is extremely extremely stupid.

I know what you mean, there so badly built! All my friend's ones have broken and i'm pretty sure mines on the brink. Let's hope it lasts the night.
