    360...is it worth it

Before we start I am not a fanboy (any fanboys please walk away now)

I am tempted to get a 360, mainly for PGR4, Forza 2, Mass Effect, GTA IV and probably some other games...including a couple of tony hawk ones, I will probably get a few other games along the way lol

    Is it worth getting one?

I have a 24" 1080p supporting monitor which can take the HDMI and I would probably want to store games so would be looking at the premium. I can get one for £260ish with 4 games (viva pinata, viva pinata party animals, forza 2 (i think) and table tennis) and an extra controller (I have 2 wired ones for my pc already)

My other choice is a ps3....but I'm not too keen on getting a 40gb as I hear there is a lot of issues with wireless, and also cost of games (no plans for homebrew aside from as a media centre....possibly)

    I already have:
Decent Gaming pc (with 24" 1920x1200 monitor as said before)
Nintendo Wii (connected by component to monitor)
    Nintendo DS Lite
    Sony PSP

My housemate has a PS3....and although the games look good I'm not keen on the controller to be honest

so what do people think? and are there any better deals? (deal I had was from comet)

the game library for the 360 is decent. if there are a number of games for it you're interested in, it's worth buying

The arcade side of the 360 is excellent as well, especially if you like a bit of classic retro

    Re: 360...is it worth it

I think the 360 has an excellent games catalog at the minute and there are a few exclusives to come yet. Yes the PS3 has some exclusives like MGS and Gran Tourismo but id agree with the controller being a little crap. It just feels too light and im afraid if i press the buttons too hard ill break it.
If you're interested in getting online then the Xbox is the no brainer. I cant see many positives for the ps3 personally, other than some games like COD4 look better on it that on my Xbox

does VP *work* for you on pc? it seems to barely run on the sister's machine, which is bad given it was her xmas present

also, consider dead rising, assassin's creed, crackdown, overlord, and a big bucket of XBLA downloads

runs fine on my high end...ish pc (e6600, 2gb ram, 8800gt, running xp with a hack on it to disable windows live, kept crashing my pc), although sseeing as it comes in the entertainment bundle I might keep it

Oh, and I cant stand windows live on some pc games

overlord...think i have that on the pc, is it kindof like dungeon keeper where you control minions?

I had dead rising on my original list Hex

    Re: 360...is it worth it

Gears of War is pretty good (especially the multi player), the demo for Spiderman: Friend or Foe was surprisingly decent (and I think that may be my next game).

Which brings me to a good point, there are quite a few demos on x-box live so you could always download a few and see what tickles your fancy.

XBL Arcade is the best part of the 360, I think I've bought more games from there than anywhere - just be prepared for the hard disk to fill up (I think I need to upgrade to an Elite).

    Re: 360...is it worth it

I got my 360 from HMV with Mass Effect and Forza 2 for £250. As both of those games are in your list (and they are both great games) I don't see how you can go wrong with a bundle like that. I was a bit concerned I wouldn't bother much with the 360 but I can say for certain that mass effect has enough draw to make me spend at least 80 hours with it over the next few weeks.

They're not exclusive to Xbox but Burnout Paradise and GTA IV. And I'd second Crackdown and Dead Rising.

As for the Live Arcade, I have two words - REZ HD.

    The one on northumberland street?

I'll have a look, I'm 90% set on getting one now, going to use either my uni bursary or my tax rebate for it

that deal sounds good, especially as I have 2 wired controllers already (use with my pc)

Soooooo well said. It's a beautiful, beautiful thing... Mass Effect is really good (though not perfect, all the side missions are junk, but the main quest is excellent) and there are tons of other good titles out there.

    Go get one...

To the OP - Given the list of games you've come up with that you want to play then it sounds as if you're already sold on the 360! The fact that there are so many games you want to play on it makes me tihnk you should get one.

To add to your list from Live Arcade - Rez HD has been mentioned previously (FABULOUS game - best music ever!) but you might also consider Metal Slug 3, an old school 2D side scrolling shooter and Omega 5, a side scrolling 3D shooter.
