    Assassins Creed (PC) leaks..

I'm sure some of us are aware about the Assassins Creed leak on the web - right now you can download it - illegally. However, and here's the fun part - all the pirates are suffering from terrible crashes and the inability to get part a certain part of the game. In any case, this is very bad news for Ubi because it's not released till the end of the month (28th to be precise based on my own preorder).

However.. do you think because the pirate release is so broken more people will buy the game? Or less?

Is the leak a beta? Or is it some clever copy protection (degrading software?)?

I've preordered it partly because of the leak tbh - because I want to support Ubi and (having seen the '360 version) I think it's pretty good.

    Re: Assassins Creed (PC) leaks..

it's not uncommon for the first pirate releases to be half-baked - fixing initial media checks, but missing multiple in-game ones

either way, it can often hurt a game's rep - it gets a reputation as buggy, since most people play the pirate one and assume the real game is just as crashy

    Re: Assassins Creed (PC) leaks..

Judging from my experience on other forums it'll just mean hundreds of people complaining that the game is the buggiest game in existence (again) and that kids could code better etc etc.

I'm sure thats why Unreal Tournament 2003 never took off properly! I thought UT2003 was the best of the 'new' Unreals ( post 99' )

In short, I think less will buy it because of this.

    Re: Assassins Creed (PC) leaks..

There was a thread posted here last week linking to a developer who worked on Titan's Quest complaining about the same problem. TQ got cracked and was illegally available early, but crashed at certain points due to a media check.

    Here's the link.

    Re: Assassins Creed (PC) leaks..

i hope this doesn't damage sales too much, jade raymond said in an interview that the two sequels would be made if the game sold well enough.

whether it's buggy or not if you don't own a 360/ps3 you should buy this on pc as it is good fun.

it can be a little repetitive and first time through i got bored, but second time through i found myself finding new and inventive ways to kill people.

i enjoyed this that much that i have completed it twice now and i never play a game again after completion unless its a FF style game (jrpg)

To be honest? No. Some copy protection schemes (starforce for example) went too far IMHO - and they never really stop piracy, more they punish the legit users. I'll admit i've used cracks to get legit copies of games working properly (and know others who've had the same issue) on systems or just for not having the hassle of the DVD in the drive.
Eventually a game will be cracked, so it's more about delaying the pirates than stopping them.

I think this looks like a good game - and something i'll enjoy

That's a very good point - although presumably people can only talk about their experiences playing it by giving away they've got the pirate version.

I guess i'm hoping (if it's bugs) that a patch is available on release day

introversion released a fake version of darwinia, complete with fake NFO, which worked fine for about 5 minutes then faded out to a screen marked "buy me"

I'm hoping it will be good, but... damn, I'm still playing through The Witcher. Where do people find the time to finish games these days?

All that happens is you get hundreds of users complaining on the forums and in user reviews that the game is poorly programmed and buggy.

Lazy people demand that pirate versions of a game represent the legit one - if the experience is worse (which I hear it often is) then they just lie and try and harm the real game. I never really thought that people could actually be so malicious when it's other people's jobs on the line, but they really are, and in quite surprising numbers.
