make sure the homehub is set to 802.11g and the antenna for the device is pointing away from the xbox and there is space around the device

First of all, I'd test it in the same room as the, to make sure you've got all the connection settings right and all that, when it works there take it to your room and try again.

That's what I did and it was fine, like finlay said make sure the aerial is pointing up. My laptop connection in my room is 'Low', but my 360 connection in there is fine.

Yeah when i put in the room right next to it when the rents where away a couple of days ago and it was perfect it didnt lag or anything pretty much perfect connection
but then in my room,(10 meters away and the homehub claiming to have 30meters of wireless range) il get random sprirts of where it wants to work for example last night, i would get 3 bars of signle of cod4 which is playable then it will change to no bars or one, then i have to move my xbox on top a raidator a random place in my room right next to the wall and it stayed at 3 bars but then this moring i turned it on, it had one bar and was so weak it couldnt even connect to xbox live
and i dont know how to find out if it is set to 802.11g, the xbox is 10 meters away would the antenna pointing towards the direction of the xbox make any diffrence, and the homebub is pretty confined into a space.
and i aint allowed it in the sitting room(where its has great signel) becuase my dad hates it
i dont know how to make sure if its on

move the homehub out of the confined space and see if it helps, if it's in a shelf it may be have adverse effects on the signal

Its not in a shelf, but its on atop of a like a small draw about half a meter high and to the left is a wall (which makes no diffrence cos after the wall is the garden ) and to the right, towards the xbox's direecting is two cabnits full of clothes :/ which is about two meters long and a gap at the front of the homebhub which has nothing infront of it witch is about half a meter again, so its pretty confined.

Don't use both at the same time, and move it as you need it?

Yeaaah i would do that, but the laptop is my dads/well everyones so while im on the xbox their going to want to go on the laptop, but ive kind of fixed it now, its still in the same place, ive just moved it so its facing forwards to the xbox and the left of the laptop so the laptop works perfectly and i can get "ok" signel on the 360, but hey lifes tuff haha.

Someone told me there were black spots underneath and above the 360, not sure if it's true though.
