Thumbs up NXE: HDD game install sizes & load times.

I imagine most people have seen this but for those that haven't I think it's quite interesting.
The general opinion is that it doesn't reduce times by a great deal but I think they've missed a trick, second-wise the differences aren't massive but %-wise they seem a great deal better for the most part! HL2 seems to benefit massively but avoid like the plague for Halo3!

Eurogamer have done a comparison of load times & a few sizes- http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=290745

Bingegamer have a comparison with install sizes for loads of games - http://www.bingegamer.net/2008/so-ho...install-chart/

I'm suprised FC2 is so small but guess I still won't be installing any more than 2 games on my 20gb HDD ....

Yeah the Eurogamer article is really good, read it a few days ago.

Problem I have is also the 20Gb hard disk. When you consider you only have around 13Gb to play with it is 2 games installation (believe the other 7 Gb is system related files and the emulator required to play XBox origionals). So for me it will most likely 1 game, which will be Fallout 3 for me. Then change to something else when I get it if I am drawn in by it.

I mostly enjoy how quiet the whole thing is compared to what it was

Aye me too I do mostly play one game right through before moving onto the next though, think I'm gonna have to get one of the 60GB packs for £47 & flog the bits I don't need.

I don't even want the emulator (2GB reserved!!) You should be able to remove it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911593

I might look into a diy yourself 120 gig upgrade. Seems to be a nightmare tracking down the 120 gig WD scorpio drives with the particular model number required though

Modded consoles are getting banned from live, there was a big push over the last week, best safe bet is the 60gb upgrade pack, then sell the 20gb one after you transfer game saves etc over, ends up costing £30 or so and you get some more xbl gold time

There have been a few reports though Rob. I don't have a link unfortunately, but modding a HD doesn't seem worth it.

True hexus did post an article about modding consoles. I wasnt aware the hard drive was one area of the console they look at..

I thought the hard drive upgrade kits were only for arcade / core owners??

There are lots of areas they look at, disc drive info/firmware, main console firmware, hard drive, xbox live profiles and more

The upgrade is intended for the arcade users but it won't stop a pro/premium user using it

All you will need is a HDD transfer kit V2 (V1 only works on 20-120gb, V2 does 20-60 or 120gb) and the suitable disc to insert for it, if you can source the disc (don't know if you can burn one yourself but I have the V2 transfer cable still) or use a memory card to transfer everything but it will take a long time!

Re: NXE: HDD game install sizes & load times.

Is it possible to use an external USB hard drive and use that as extra space on the 360? I have an external hard drive plugged in that I use to store media on, i.e. movies and music...

Think so but for music & videos only. You can't use it for downloads or installing games.

I thought you actually needed the signature from another drive which means it must be another 360 drive anyway, ie. Not a normal WD one?
It's been a while since I read up on it, so correct me if wrong
