    Which version of PS3?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did go back over the last 10 pages and found nobody asking.

Anyway, I'm going to buy a PS3 today but not sure which version to get, 40/60/80gb. I just want to know how quickly the 40gb would fill up really? What do you really need to use it for? Do you install games, the same as with a PC, or is it just for saves and downloadable content? I'll only be playing games and watching bluray so I won't be downloading films or anything to the HDD, which makes me think 80gb is overkill.

    Cheers

    Re: Which version of PS3?

I picked up a 40Gb yesterday....I'd rather have a larger HDD, but I doubt I'm going to be using it all that much anyway (and it was only £150 with three games, so I can't complain )

    Re: Which version of PS3?

40 gig will probably do then, it just depends if you are going to download any full games as these can be quite large. It would also depend on the difference in price, if there's not a lot in it I would get the larger drive.

    Re: Which version of PS3?

Remember the disk size should not be a big issue, as it very easy to swap out to a new one. Check out this thread http://forums.hexus.net/sony-gaming/...placement.html Can get a 250gb drive for about £40.

If buying second hand it seems that the original 60mb with media slots/backwards computability is popular (goes for more) But all later models (apart from disk space) are pretty much the same now as far as i know.

    Re: Which version of PS3?

Thanks everyone - when I posted, I wasn't aware that the 40gb had been discontinued. I want a new one rather than pre-owned so I'm going for an 80gb after all. Thanks for the advice

My 40 one went which I purchased last June at the end of November, I think it's more luck of the draw than model.

    Re: Which version of PS3?

I had the 40GB model but got filled up within 2 months since I got it. End up replacing it with a 320GB hdd and mainly use it viewing videos and images. Not to mention game demos.

    Re: Which version of PS3?

I have the 60GB model and after downloading the Killzone demo last week it is now full. I will just delete a lot of demos I have on it. I have all of my game saves as well from every game I have ever played on it. Even games I have sold or traded on, just incase I pick them up again in the future. I might put them on to a USB pen drive or something as I have a couple around here somewhere.

    Re: Which version of PS3?

Depends if backwards compatibility is a big thing for you.

I personally prefer the 80GB model because it runs cooler and quieter.

    Re: Which version of PS3?

If you can get a 60b version with backward comparability it is worth it. Playing some old ps2 games such as god of war series upscaled is a joy to behold Contrary to the above, my friends have noted the noise of mine is almost non audible (whisper quiet) compared to their newer models.

My mate's 60gb is noticeably louder than my 40GB. Still super quiet compared to the 360/Xbox/DC.
If you plan on still playing some PS2 games a 60Gb is worth it and it has more USB sockets.

Having said that I have not ran out of games to play for my 40GB.

    Re: Which version of PS3?

Had a 60GB since launch and it still has 15GB left on it.

If backwards compatibility is a must then you need the original 60GB if you can find one, or just get the current 80GB.

    Re: Which version of PS3?

hard drive space shouldnt be a concern.
worst comes to worst, upgrade the existing one with a regular 2.5" sata drive.

i had a 40gb, but swapped the drive out for a 320GB drive... not sure what to put on there now, but im not exactly worried
