Angry Love my PS3... hate the controllers!

    Hey,

I've had a launch day PS3 for ages and it's a damn nice bit of kit, but why are the controllers so CRAP. The grotesque 15 year old design sits in your hands like a small turd, and the L2/R2 buttons are just horribly positioned (even with add-on triggers). The 360 pad is miles better and so much easier to use.

So I'm wondering if there are any decent third party controllers out there that are any good?

    I want one of these!!

    Cheers,

    Suman

I think there are only two logitech controllers available, I think its because they don't allow any other companies to make them. Any way I saw them on Amazon, I know what ypu mean about the PS controllers they were made for peoople with small hands.

I agree entirely. The horrible pad is one of the main reasons I prefer 360 versions of cross-platform games

hmm strange, everyone i know prefers the PS3 pad, i personally just couldn't get to grips with the 360 one, especially when using the the d-pad (shivers)

For other pads maybe try play-asia, seems allot of people like using the "Hori" range (who also make the ps3 streetfighter joypads)

Or if you have allot of time on your hands.......

Actually, I'm glad they haven't changed the design - it works.

I haven't tried the 360 one, and haven't played an xbox in years, but do you really think that the boomerang style would be any better? It looks totally mis-shapen as if it's more about the aesthetics than the ergonomics.

i think a rubber finish over the hard slippy plastic woulda been a better option. Dont mind the layout tbh

Re: Love my PS3... hate the controllers!

I prefer the PS controllers over the XBox 360 ones. Those boomerang ones were the original design concepts by Sony pre PS3. Apparently it got a lot of complaints so Sony basically stuck to the PS2 design and made them motion detect.

I don't find the current controllers an issue....no need to change a good design imo!

Love the Ps controllers, dual shock even more (gives it a little more weight than the plain six-axis). One of the many reasons why i dont like the 360 is the controller.

i love the sixaxis controllers, i think i may get a duelshock 3 tho - missing the vibration, especially in games like dead space (if its available in that game). never really got to grips with the 360 controller, just felt too big and akward - but i dont really think i gave it a chance

Gioteck RealTriggers improve the PS3 controller no end. Excellent for driving games that use R2 L2.

Been using my Frag FX for FPS like Far cry 2 and Fallout 3, took a few days to get used to but now i'm pretty good at multiplayer on Far cry 2, it's as near mouse n keyboard control as i'm going to get on ps.

The PS2 controller is a classic, time proven design. It works great in games like Tekken for example and I even worked great in MGS2/MGS3.

I purchased my PS3 solely to play MGS4 and the controller (sixaxis) really felt very light. I then got a dualshock3 replacement and the weight is spot on now. It works great in MGS4 and GTAIV.

Sure, comparatively I prefer the 360 controller. It is far more 'comfortable' and you just feel like holding on to it...but for a lot of the PS style games, it just works...

I am glad they did not come out with the funny boomerang though...

I totally agree, I didn't even like the design of the PS1 controllers when they were first launched, and they're still using that model! I also went to look for a dual shock controller the other day - £40! That's ridiculous!

Re: Love my PS3... hate the controllers!

Having used both Xbox360 and PS3 controllers my own preferance is the PS3. The 360 controller feels like you have to mash the buttons for something to happen and as mentioned before the D-Pad is er...not very nice (just feels very cheap/tacky and unresponsive). The PS3 pad is not without its fault; it could do with being a touch larger for an adult (probably the right size for kids) and it would be nice if those angled bits could be adjustable to suit hand orientation.

Throughout the xbox iterations of controllers, none have felt "right" (for me) whereas the PS controllers are 90% there.

Six axis PS3 controller is far too light but the Dual Shock has just the right weight to it.
