Guitar Hero World Tour, or Rock Band

I really love the guitar hero games, and had an absolute blast playing rock band and gh:wt at my friends houses. So, I decided to take the plunge and buy it... what one was the only real decision to make.

Guitar Hero : World Tour, or Rock Band 2?

Anyway want to give their opinions on price, instruments, track last, features etc of both, comparing them, or just link me to an article which compares them both?

Also, I saw guitar hero for £130 in game, where abouts can I get them cheaper?

generally, GH instruments are better, RB games (especially downloadable songs) are better

Re: Guitar Hero World Tour, or Rock Band

With Rock Band 2, you could just buy Rock Band 2, then buy the first game and import the songs, basically like, doubling the amount of songs (without even talking about DLC).

Buuut, like you said, the GH instruments are alot better than RB. Hmm, dilemas =/.

On the plus side, instrument compatibility on the 360 is great

    My thoughts exactly

Most important thing is setlist for me, so check out all of them and see what you like best.

I like both GH WT and RB 1's setlists so i got the GH WT Band Bundle and the RB 1 standalone game

    verry happy with it

Re: Guitar Hero World Tour, or Rock Band

So I had a chance to play Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 (using world tour instruments) for about 4 hours tonight.

Very impressed. Playing guitar and bass in world tour feels better than in rock band. Drumming was pretty much the same. I had problems with the singing though. In world tour I could pass BYOB on hard (got like, 75% though), but in rock band I failed some of the easier songs on easy. I didn't like the singing in rock band 2, at all.

Overall, I think the instruments are great for world tour. Never actually used the touch sensitive frets, so can't really comment on them. Drums are very sturdy and I felt like I was playing real drums . Guitar is great, mic is... a mic I guess.

Right now I think it's better to buy GH:WT, then buy Rock Band 2 for the set list.

Now, if I could only find space in my room ...

Re: Guitar Hero World Tour, or Rock Band

I assume you've gotten a newer, better drum set than me then. Sensitivity is all over the place, considering getting a replacement rather than a fix. I heard that the RB2 drums were supposed to be a lot better than the RB1 ones, are they better than WT though?

The WT controller is a bit rubbish too, the slider bar isn't sensitive the whole length (not that I use it anyway - I think most people see it as a gimmick), the strum bar squeaks irritatingly and occasionally doesn't strum at all. Whammy bar is, IMO, worse than the GH3 one. I use my GH3 guitar for GH3, WT and RB1, works fine over them all, although I guess the newer versions are better, same as drums.

The mic is... just a mic, like you said. Not much to say there

I need to get another set of sticks now, managed to break one of the starter pair already (< 2 months!)

Re: Guitar Hero World Tour, or Rock Band

Have the second gen instruments caused as many problems as the old versions?

Really wanted to get RB but was put off by all the noises people were making about the drums (I think it was).

Have GH3 and the guitar is pants, the frets at the head lose contact all the time and put me off playing the game altogether.

Re: Guitar Hero World Tour, or Rock Band

Perhaps the GH3 guitar problem only applies to you, mine works best out of all the guitar controllers I have...

For the newer versions, I'd say yes definitely. Played world tour on the Wii at a mate's house a couple weeks ago, and both the new guitar and new drums worked great. So I'd assume they've sorted it for all platforms, because the problems were over all platforms.

Re: Guitar Hero World Tour, or Rock Band

I haven't played Rock Band 2, although I have Rock Band and GH:WT. And I would say if I had to choose only one, it'd be RB2. But I don't think you'll be unhappy with either, and to be honest, if you're going to get one, you need to get both (and RB1, so you can import the songs).

They both have subtle differences that make them unique, but really they complement each other. RB2 has some key features though that GH:WT doesn't which may apply to you... being able to play the band career mode online, if you tend to play on your own is great, if you dont play career mode with friends.

Any time I've played with friends, it's just quickplay and we're messing about, can't really get people into the 'career' kind of spirit I found, it's meant to be a social thing, swap instruments every song, different people taking turns sitting out etc. And just general sense of "it doesnt matter", not like a single player game. I dunno if that applies to others though, but thats one thing in GH:WT and RB1 that I really miss.

Also the fact you can import all of the songs from RB1 (except a few), means you get a setlist twice as big, and really would bolster the game imo (especially as some of the RB1 songs are GREAT, "Green Grass and High Tides" is definitely one of THE best songs on any of the GH/RB series to date)

As for instruments, I'd say get GH:WT instruments. Or RB2 + instruments, and then GH:WT game+guitar.

The GH:WT guitar strum is squeaky, but it doesnt affect the playability for me, and you can always add some wd40 or something, have read about people doing that and fixing the squeaking. Slider is a novelty but kinda cool, adds some more longevity/fun to the game if you wanna play for fun, playing for score then don't need it.

Re: Guitar Hero World Tour, or Rock Band

Yeah... the GH guitars are better than the RB one, but the GH drums can be problematic (there's a concise review here that mentions the problems: http://www.itreviews.co.uk/games/g528.htm).

On balance I'd be inclined to go with RB2, esp if you have a GH guitar you can use with it... better set list than GHWT, better DLC as people have said, and a better career mode with more stuff to do.
