    Intermittent "Disk is Unreadable" Error

Anyone else seen this much - every so often I get "Disk is unreadable" errors whilst playing games. Doesn't seem to happen consistently or have any particular reason, disk just spins down and the error appears. Info says the disk might be dirty - but just resetting the console and re-loading the game works fine?!

It's bloody annoying as it always happens at the worst possible moment!

Either clean the disk or maybe the laser is going.

If the disk has some nasty scratches on it, you can polish them off with a cloth and some toothpaste. Takes quite a lot of elbow grease, but it can be done. Have rescued many a CD like this

I'm a bit OCD about my games/dvd's etc - they are unmarked and in some cases brand new games being played for the first time.

It does smack of a laser issue - just keep my fingers crossed it keeps working for the time being. Planning to replace it with an elite soon as it's a 1st gen and bloody noisey and relegate that one to the guest room!

Probably the DVD drive is on the way out. Not covered under warranty so if your console is over a year old you'll have to pay £80 odd for a new DVD drive.

It's the light from your holy c0ck0r affecting the laser diodes

If it is going on it's last legs then I can only say welcome to the club (I'm on my 3rd...or is it 4th now)

Keep it as a media streamer for another room and purchase a new arcade and transfer over the HDD to the new console.

    Snap

It is a laser issue. You probably have a first gen Zephyr like me. Here is how you can tell

    12V Current Rating, 16,5A = Zephyr, 14,2A = Falcon, 12,1A = Jasper

Mine is going back to MS for some fixing (hopefully)

Check online if your warranty is still good and arrange a repair
