The disc must be in the console.

Re: xbox 360 - putting games to hard drive

Are you suggesting that you want to both play on the same copy of the game?

Hmmm nice and Illegal, I doubt you would be able to, and discussions of such natures I believe are banned anyway.

    disc needed.

only real advantage i have found for using the hard drive is to ditch the dvd drive noise when playing things like guitar hero

im not trying to be illegal i was just wondering cause if you can do that then theres no need to both buy the game when you can use one disk but by the looks of it u both need the disk for online

If I have a scratched disk but my friend has one that works, can I download his to my hard drive and then use mine to run it?
I cant see why not but they may need to read the same disk

I would think that would work, so long as whatever needs to be read, can still be read. After all, it's the same information on each disc, is it not?

Rasta - I would suspect that the disc share would be intended legal, just shared - like activating a DRM copy of something on two different computers.

Illegal, you are sharing something with someone who doesn't have permission to use it.

Same as copying a dvd, techically illegal.

As for the matter, the disc performs a check when it spins up so you have to have it in, if you change the console the hard drive is attached to you have to rip it to the 360 HDD again too.

It sounds like the OP wants to play a game with a friend, using 2 different consoles but only 1 copy of the game. So Id say that was illegal? Unless its like playing mario kart on the DS where one console can stream to the others.

Each person should have there own copy of the game.

*Edit* just seen Finn's post above.

Re: xbox 360 - putting games to hard drive

i like how everyone is jumping on to the "OMG IT'S ILLEGAL" bandwagon when it is physically impossible to have 1 disc in 2 drives anyways.
if you take the disc out of the drive the game won't work so it's still impossible no matter how you look at it.

the simple answer would have been, the disc needs to be in the console to play.

Erm you can 'burn' games to the 360's harddrive.

BUT the original disk is still needed for verification purposes.

Someone doesnt have all the facts I think.

Re: xbox 360 - putting games to hard drive

Calm down guys, as far as I'm concerned he hasn't done anything illegal he's just asking a question

When you've installed a game on the 360 using NXE the console performs a check to make sure the disc's in the drive before it boots so you'd both need copies of the game to play with each other online.
